How can custom applications get scom 2012 dashboards data

Hi we have a custom application developed in Django/python which gives us an entire infrastructure overview of our company's IT assets. We need to build custom reports in that and we are planning to get the data from scom to build those dashboards. How can this be done?

Is there some scom API's exposed for this purpose. Any pointers for this would be greatly useful.
