I currently have two email notifications working in SCOM 2007 R2 for logical disk free space. One for alerts generated when the warning threshold is triggered and one for when the error threshold is triggered. These are working fine. For the purpose of this discussion I'm gonna call them Subscription1 and Subscription2. The conditions/criteria for this subscription is to notify on alerts generated by the logical disk free space monitor, the severity is WARNING(Subscription1) or ERROR(Subscription2) and the resolution state is 'NEW'.
One of the servers we monitor via SCOM is used by our LAN\WAN group. They want to see alerts regarding disk space on just this particular server. I figure this would be a piece of cake to setup, however, 4 hours later I'm still not able to get an email alert on ONE specific server for the logical disk free space monitor.
I created the new subscription and modeled after the ones above. I just added the additional criteria 'raised by an instance with a specific name' in which I picked the server I'm targeting. Lets call this one Subscription3.
I then reset the monitor on that server so it goes healty. The monitor triggers shortly after. I get the alert from Subscription1, but not from Subscription3.
I changed the subscription to notify on ANY alerts 'raised by an instance with a specific name' with the server name I'm targetting by removing the criteria 'created by specific rules or monitors' Logical Disk Free Space. I figure this one should work since i'm targeting the server as a whole. No luck after resetting the monitor on that server. Subscription1 comes through but nothing from Subscription3.
I then create a GROUP in SCOM and placed the actual C: and D: instances for THE server I'm targeting in it. I then change Subscription3 to notify on alerts 'raised by any instance in a specific group' and select the group I just created. Again, no luck after resetting the monitor, Subscription1 comes through, but nothing from Subscription3.
What the hell am I missing here? Why are things like this such a pain in the ass in SCOM?
