Web Application Monitoring - https URL that redirects gives HTTP Status code 403 ACCESS FORBIDDEN

I have setup monitoring of a htts URL using the Web Application Availability Monitoring template however http status code 403 Forbidden is returned instead of 200 (the URL is available and works fine).

The URL I monitor redirects to another https URL. I can open both the direct URL and the directed URL in a browser on the server as local system account.

If I monitor the same HTTPS URL using Web Application TRANSACTION Monitoring it works fine and I get a http status code 200 back. I don't understand why there is this difference in the two monitoring methods and I want to use the Web Application Availabilty Monitoring template.

Any ideas is appriciated.
