Issue with Agents in Application DNS domains

$

0

I have a confusing scenario. We have a number of servers being monitored that have their DNS in an application domain, not their true AD domain. When installing the SCOM agent it picks up the application domain FQDN (properties tab of the agent) and not the true AD FQDN. The console shows the servers by true AD FQDN. The servers show up in the console as "Not monitored".

I have not found a config file or registry entry where I can change this. One option I thought of is to remove the explicit "Primary DNS suffix for this computer", install the agent, then put the application domain suffix back. That is a lot of work, though.

Any other suggestions so I can get these systems monitored?

Thanks,

Steve

SCOM 2007 R2: HealthService Restart Recovery Task in "System Rules Unloaded" monitor

Hi,

SCOM 2007 R2: I want to restart  healthservice on agents using recovery task which should be in monitor "Health Service Unloaded System Rule(s)"  when SCOM rule is unloading. I have tried both command line and script. But nothing is working. Actually SCOM RMS service is going down when this recovery task is running by script.

Please help me to accomplish this requirement. Is it possible to create recovery task same like task "Restart HealthService" which is part of monitor "Health Service Heartbeat Failure"

Mohamed Sybulla

It's reasonable to start Operations Manager Console always with /ClearCache option?

In the last month, sometimes i've the problem, that the operations manager console can't find objects; shows some alerts as acitve alerts, but they're closed.

It could be solved by using the ClearCache argument, when i starts the console.

It's reasonable to start the console always with ClearCache option? --or i've have some handicaps, when i do so?

Thank you,

How to get low performances alert for Hyper-v Host ON scom

$

Hello Expert,

We have to implement a scenario VM Live migration which involved (SCOM,SCVMM,SCORCH Parts).
where SCOM parts  will monitor the performances of SCVMM 's Hyper-V hosts and VMs running the within the Hyper-v hosts.
when the VMs utilization exceed the threshold and then scom monitor checks the performances of Running Hyper-v Hosts ,then using SCORCH automation ,VMs are moved to one of the best performances the Hyper-v hosts.

To implement this ,I have integrated SCOM 2012 R2 AND SCVMM 2012 R2 AND enabled the PRO Tips.
but don't know how to get alerts and configured related to performances of VMs and Hyper-v host.
What will be next  needed to achieved this from SCOM PARTS.

Thanks and Regards

All agentless monitored servers showing same percent memory used

$

I have 13 servers that are managed agentless via a proxy agent on the gateway server. I do this as when I had them set up to use the agent, the agent was consuming too much CPU on the servers. So, all appears to be fine, it is pulling in the percent CPU usage and such, and recognizes the OS version and what not. The issue I have, is I set up a dashboard with a performance widget to track the percent memory used. All of my agentless monitored servers show the same percentage, and the percentage is also much higher than what I see on the actual servers. So, it appears that there may be some form of roll up or something on the agentless servers, or it's taking the highest from the group, or I'm not drilling into the right counter or something. I have two widgets, one that is performance and one that is performance object. The performance one grabs the object "Memory", counter of "PercentMemoryUsed", with no performance instance selected (although I have also tried "all"). The performance object widget selects the same performance counter (Memory / PercentMemoryUsed /) and again have also tried "all" there as well. This allows the performance widget to graph/show the last value and maximum value, while the performance object shows me the average sorted from highest to lowest. I have another server that is agent managed in the same list, that shows what appears to be accurate information...and there is also a performance counter for cpu usage that appears to have accurate data for all of the above (agent and agentless). So, why am I seeing this issue with my agentless servers?

Error: Deploying Update Rollup 6 on SCOM 2012 SP1

In my test environment when installing UR 6 for SCOM 2012 SP1: "The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the Windows Installer because the program to be upgraded may be missing,or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program. Verify that the program to be updated exists on your computer and that you have the correct upgrade patch"

SCOM 2012 SP1

Update rollup 6 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2929885)

CPU: Pentium(R) Dual-Core  CPU      E5700  @ 3.00GHz

OS: 2008 R2 - 64-bit Operating System

Is this issue beacuse of CPU? I tried both processor architecture (KB2929885-i386 and KB2929885-AMD64) patches and both gave the same error (as test to be sure).  I like to update the servers manually.

any idea?

3 management servers (500 agents) are using excessive memory

Hi,

Our Opsmgr 2012 R2 UR2 environment has got 3 management server for 500 agents

We got a few large MP's like:

Veeam, Cisco UCS (divided on two management servers)

One management server which has got only reporting service and the webconsole, without agents, is losing 16 gig of memory a day. The next day the server has consumed all the memory and we need to restart the server.

How can a new R2/UR2 management server consume so much memory on a server who communicates with reportings service which isn't used much and with a webconsole we don't use much.

André

Hallo,

I am using SCOM 2012 SP1 UR6. And since yesterday I have a problem.

The monitor "Data Warehouse Managed Object Type Synchronization Data Reader Recovery State" is in a critical state.

Every 10min I am getting the 31555 Event ID in OperationsManager log with below description:

Failed to generate data to be forwarded to the Data Warehouse. The operation will be retried.
Exception 'ArgumentOutOfRangeException': Specified argument was out of the range of valid values.
Parameter name: dataItems

One or more workflows were affected by this.

Workflow name: Microsoft.SystemCenter.DataWarehouse.Synchronization.MaintenanceMode
Instance name: 2ebbd24d-860a-433c-8c00-a8d57c1980af
Instance ID: {761FD899-1362-9165-0693-673E4B827E3C}
Management group: xxxxxxxxxx

Source: Health Service Modules.

Task category: Data Warehouse.

I have 10 SCOM servers (WS2008-20012), but this event is generated only on 4 of them. All servers are patched with latest updates.

Any help on how to troubleshoot this issue would be much appreciated.

Thank you!

Multiple Alerts for "IS Package Failed" (SQL Monitoring) Rule in SCOM 2012

$

Hello All,

I have 5 SQL named instances on a SQL cluster having 2 nodes.

Whenever a package is failing on any instances, SCOM is generating 5 alerts for all the instances.

As this alert is picked up from Application event log (Source: SQLISPackage100 & Event number: 12291) it confirms that the rule is working on server level and not on DB/Instance level.

So would like to know if we can tweak the rule to work on Database level.

Thanks in Advance.

Reports for AD counters

I have been asked to provide reports for  the following counters: (AD MP and LDS is installed on SCOM 2012R2)

  • Directory Services
    • DS % Searches from LDAP
    • DS % Writes from LDAP
    • LDAP Active Threads
    • LDAP Bind Time
    • LDAP Client Sessions
    • LDAP Close Connections/sec
    • LDAP New Connections/sec
    • LDAP New SSL Connections/sec
    • LDAP Searches/sec
    • LDAP Successful Binds/sec
    • LDAP UDP operations/sec
    • LDAP Writes/sec

The bottom line is to get the peak number of current LDAP queries you would expect against AD in one day.

Is this possible with SCOM 2012R2?

I cannot see the above counters.

Thx,

John Bradshaw

SCOM 2012 R2 add/update/remove Subscriber for Subscription using PowerShell

$

I'm trying to figure out how to create a PowerShell script that will change the Subscriber of a Notification Subscription. I've run across posts that explain how to modify the email of a single subscriber and I've seen other posts that have you re-creating/cloning a subscription (see below for links to those posts), but those aren't what I'm looking for. I don't want to have to re-create the Notification Subscription every time someone runs the script to update who's on-call. Also, I don't want a generic Subscriber where only the email/sms/etc. gets updated.

There's got to be a way to do this, but I'm not sure how. The Cloning Notification Subscriptions link below has a part in the script that just uses .Add and .Update, but that's after the Subscription is created with the Subscribers using Add-SCOMNotificationSubscription. I'd like to know if there's a way to use the .Add and .Update (or whatever) to update the Subscriber of the Subscription without having to re-create it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Web Application Availability Test: The URL probe returned error code 80072F78. Reason: 0x80072f78

Hi all,

I've got an issue I can't find much information about.  I can reproduce the same issue on 2 different SCOM environments that are unrelated, so I presume the issue is with the site I am doing availability checking on, but how to further diagnose the issue is where I need help.

I am using SCOM 2012 R2 with UR2, to monitor a public facing internet website (www.sunsuper.com.au).  When I monitor this site through WEB APPLICATION AVAILABILITY MONITORING, I get the following error when trying to run a test.

The URL probe returned error code 80072F78. Reason: 0x80072f78

When trying to run a WEB APPLICATION TRANSACTION MONITOR, I get the following error.

Run with errors: Failed Error Code check.  ErrorCode: 2147954552 - 0x80072f78

From what I can gather, these error codes mean ERROR_WINHTTP_INVALID_SERVER_RESPONSE.

These errors don't give much information and the RAW data tells me basically nothing.  I get the same error when monitoring this website from the internal customer management servers, as well as my home SCOM lab which is on an open ADSL connection.

Note that both on the customer site, and at home in my lab I can access the web page just fine and it loads.  We can also monitor other web pages without any problem (internal intranet sites, other public sites like bing.com or google.com etc).

I am fairly certain the issue is with this site itself, but before I can go to someone to tell them what to fix, I need to understand what's causing this issue.

Can anybody offer some advice?

Cluster alert subcription

Hi,

We have a bunch of servers which are file server nodes and they are mapped to their respective clusters.
I am talking about 130 nodes here and around 5 -8 clusters. They belong to one application - APP-1
Also we have other SQL servers and servers which belong to different application lets say APP-2 to APP-10

Our tenant team wants to receive any cluster related alerts for these servers which belong to APP-1.

How to create subscription for this scneraio.
I have tried to create a dynamic group which will have computer objects for those 130 servers fro APP-1.
but when we tried to test alert by brining a resource offline, we did not found any alert received.
I believe its the rollup bcos resource group monitor alert is target on resource group and doesnot roll up to computer object.

please suggest.
