SQL 2005 discoveries after upgrade to Operations Manager 2012 R2 UR3 upgrade

$

Hi

We did a (succesfull) upgrade of our SCOM 2012 SP1 environment to 2012 R2 UR3. We noticed after the upgrade that databases of some  SQL 2005 clustered instances on Windows 2003 R2 SP2 are no longer discovered. checking the eventlog shows the eventid 21405 on the DiscoverSQL2005DB.vbs disvovery (process exited with 4294967295)

Browsing and checking several webfinds didn't provide a solution yet. Perhaps I overlooked the obvious....

Possible solutions which didn't bring relief yet:

  • check on SQL SP's
  • WMI registry settings [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WBEM\CIMOM] ": Low/High Threshold On Events
  • WMI repair, mofcomp...
  • Uninstall/Reinstall Monitorring Agent
  • manual run of the discover script returns all info

The runas discover and monitor account(s) are local admin on the OS and SA on the SQL instances

I'm stuck: right now we wanted to present some distributed applications through LiveMaps in scom to our internal customers and some essential databases are no longer discovered/monitorred.

Any help highly appreciated

Monitoring Exchange across multiple forests using single SCOM Management Group ?

Was not sure whether I should post here or in the Exchange forum but I will start here !  Is it possible to monitor multiple Exchange organizations running in different forests using a single SCOM management group ?  Would the Exchange and AD management pack handle this sceanrio properly ?  Would a SCOM gateway need to be installed in each forest and event after this would it be too difficult to manage ?  I am interested to hear other people's experience who have had to do similar things in the past.

Thanks in advance.

How to remove SCVMM internal connectors from SCOM 2012 R2 when the SCVMM is decommissioned.

hi All,

I integrated my SCVMM01 server with SCOM. Later on this server was decommissioned and shut off.

I can still see the SCVMM01 internal connectors in my SCOM. How can I delete these?

I cannot use "Get-SCOpsMgrConnection" since the SCVMM01 server has been decommissioned.

Is there any other way to remove these connectors?

Thanks, S K Agrawal

Monitoring Storage Spaces with SCOM 2012 R2

Hi,

We're trying to monitor the health of the Windows Server 2012 R2 clustered Storage Pool in SCOM 2012 R2.

When a disk is lost/removed - the Failover Cluster Manager reports the Storage Pool health status as Warning - "Minority Disks Unhealthy", but this is never reported in SCOM.

We have all the standard Windows Server MPs, VMM 2012 integration set up, working and all up to date.

Is there a management pack that we're missing to be able to see the issue?

Many thanks

Karolina

Hi,

On the management server where also SQL Server is installed, i get these errors. I checked the permissions written in "OpsMgr 2007 SP1 Security account Matrix v1.0.xls" momdatareader permissions seem to be okey.

Whot could be the reason?

We are trying to setup integration between SCOM 2012 R2 and SCVMM 2012 R2.  I have made use the the VMM server service account is a member of a group in Operations Manager Administrators as well as a local admin on both the SCVMM and SCOM servers.  We have also installed the Management Packs according to http://technet.microsoft.com/en-US/library/hh882396.aspx. We are running into the following error on the SCOM server.

Source OpsMgr SDK Service

Event ID 26319

Error The user "VMM Server Service Account" does not have sufficient permission to perform the operation

What permissions are we missing?

SCOM Alerts for SQL Server 2012 - Management Group: XXXX. Script: DiscoverSQL2012FileGroups.js : Cannot login to database

Hello All,

We are monitoring SQL Server 2012 with SCOM 2012 R2 using RunAs account which has sa rights on these SQL Servers.

But we are receiving "Run As Account does not exist on the target system or does not have enough permissions" Alert with description

Management Group: XXXXX. Script: DiscoverSQL2012FileGroups.js : Cannot login to database [XXXXXX.com][MSSQLSERVER:DatabaseXX]

Similar event is getting generated in OperationsManager event log with event ID 4001 & is getting generated for all the databases on that server.

I have verified that credentials used in RunAs account is having SA rights on respective SQL Servers.

Please assisst me in knowing the cause of these alerts.

Thanks in Advance

Am I correct that you need to upgrade agents first and that it is OK to upgrade 2007 R2 agents directly to SCOM 2012 R2 agents ? and that they will be backward compatible with SCOM 2007 R2 management group ?

Topology Widget Resets

Two questions here.

1. When I add the topology widget to my SCOM dashboard and move my objects around to where I want them I can't get them to stay when I leave the dashboard and return. All the objects return back to the top left corner.

2. If I add a custom image to this topology widget how do I remove it if I no longer need it.

SCOM Management Servers not working after DW upgraded to SQL 2014

$

Hey guys,

Our setup is that we have 2 Management Servers running SCOM 2012 R2 UR3 on Server 2008. I want to say exactly what our problem is, and what my guesses are at it. Any additional information you need please just ask.

Problem = In the SCOM console we have the management servers and Gateway servers going grey. If i go to these servers and restart the Monitoring service, it acts like it was locked up or something and has to force stop it and restart it. Once back up, everything works fine. Then it goes grey again at a random interval between 5-120 minutes. Recycle Repeat. I reviewed the Event Log during this and afterwards and ALOT of stuff points toward the DataWarehouse and not being able to write stuff to it. I have two suspicions.

Idea 1 = Another Engineer recently updated SQL on the Datawarehouse server to 2014. I recently found this had caused a problem with SCSM reporting and had to do some stuff to fix that.... so I was thinking that maybe this had something to do with it.

Idea 2 = Also around the same time... UR3 came out. This was auto pushed out to all the server and agents through WSUS, I also went through and manually did all the steps for this. Its still possible i suppose that I missed something.

Basically Im just looking to see if anyone has any advice as to what to check next, and/or see if anyone else has had this problem. Thanks guys!

As part of planning for upgrading our SCOM 2007 R2 we are needing to upgrade SQL from 2008 SP3 either SQL 2008 R2, SQL 2012 or SQL 2014.  Does anyone have input on which version would be preferable with least chance of issues post upgrade ?
