Run WMIADAP /F and WMIDIAG tool

$

Hi,

Strange one.  SCOM 2007R2 rule that runs if SCOM thinks the WMI reprository is corrupt Run WMIADAP /F runs daily on a couple of our Win 2003 Server boxes, however if I run WMIDIAG (MS tool) there says there is no corruption.

So why does SCOM think there is?  Any idea how it checks?

Thanks

SCOM 2012 Gateway/Untrusted domain certificate problem

$

The basic issue I am having is that I cannot create a certificate template.  We have a Windows 2008 Enterprise CA environment.  The servers that are hosting the certificate authorities are all running Windows 2008 ServerStandard edition. I have figured out that with Standard edition, you cannot create v2 or v3 templates. I have spent several days attempting to create a useable template without success.  If I try to duplicate a version 1 template, it seems to only allow the duplicated template to be at least a version 2.  Unfortunately it seems none of the existing Version 1 templates meet the criteria for SCOM certificate usage.

I did try an approach that didn't need a certificate template, but I get this error once I successfully imported this onto one of our DMZ servers:

The specified certificate could not be loaded because the Key Usage specified does not meet OpsMgr requirements.   The certificate must have the following usage types:

Digital Signature

Key Encipherment

This did not make sense to me but I'm no expert with this.  I did use the procedure for a Stand Alone CA, rather than the Enterprise CA.  So I'm assuming it didn't like that.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Cluster disk need to be discovered as Logical disk

Hello,

I recently reviewed few servers and found not all the drives have been discovered in SCOM and also no alerting. After few analysis i suspect the drives missed from cluster servers, i hope 6.0.7026.0 MP discover the cluster disks separately. Is it possible to discover cluster disk as logical disk and also logical disk free space monitor has to be applied to those not the cluster disk monitoring.

SCOM 2012 - Operations Manager Databases (SQL 2008 R2)

$

We are implementing SCOM 2012 (backend is SQL 2008 R2) but only Operations Manager for now. The expected size of the databases is about 500 GB (for operations manager db) and 1.6 TB for operations manager datawarehouse database (this includes the free space and growth for next 12 months). Since the databases are larger in size, we are thinking of using multiple data files (with each file in different drive.)  for each database. But we don't know whether this will create any issues. I am not looking from a SQL Server best practices point of view for this question, but this is more from a product perspective. Did anyone create multiple data files for the operations manager databases? Please share your experiences.

Rocky

Renaming of distributed applications in widgets not working?

I have a strange issue with the renaming of distributed applications. i have read all the other issues that people are having with different locales on the server aswell as looking into the database it self from this blogpost:
http://scug.be/jan/2013/02/06/the-scom-group-rename-bug-demystified/

i have solved so that the name of the DA Changes in the distributed application state view but when i create a State widget and add the distributed application the old name is still there. i have tried clearing the cache by removing the registry entry, removing the appdata catalog aswell as the /cleancache.

I have search the management pack aswell for the old name and no hits.

But still, no change. Does anybody have an idea where it gets the value of Object Display Name as shown in the screenshots?

The initial name was Test Name 1.0 and the new name is Test Name 2.0

Hi,

I've made a new Report Operator user role, however the users in this user role have a blank Reporting Workspace. I've added the identity ID of the user role in a new Role Assignment on the Reporting Server. When I click View Scheduled Reports on the right hand side I get the following error:

SQL Collation Issue

We have a SCOM 2007 R2 installation within our network.  We have a separate RMS server, separate SQL server, separate Audit Collection server, and a separate reporting server.

Our SQL Server (2008 SP1) has the wrong collation setup at server level, the databases are correct. So we are experiencing  "Failed to store data in the Data Warehouse" errors. http://thoughtsonopsmgr.blogspot.co.uk/2010/04/failed-to-store-data-in-data-warehouse.html

My question is if I uninstall our SQL installation, re-install and restore the databases do I need to do the same on the reporting server (which holds its only local install of SQL and it's databases) or would that be okay as is?

Network Port Stitching

$

I've been able to discover 2 switches and a router (default gateway) that my Server 2012 server is connected to and I can see the network devices stitched together in the "Network Vicinity Dashboard". However, I cannot see my Server 2012 server in the dashboard, even after clicking the show computers checkbox on the dashboard.

I have all the MP's installed and even enabled monitoring on all of the ports and interfaces that had monitoring disabled.

The network adapters on the Server 2012 box have been discovered, but their IP address property in SCOM is empty. Actually all of my Server 2012 devices don't have their IP address discovered for the network adapters.

Has anyone seen this problem, or have suggestions?

Thanks!

I'm seeing the some errors in SCOM 2012 for our test environment.   Our SCSM environment is 2012 SP1 with UR2 applied.  SCOM environment is also at the same version and patch level.

I have not seen this error in our Production environment.  Here are the details from the Alert Context tab of the Operation Failed due to SQL Server timeout alert:

We are not utilizing Orchestrator in our System Center environment.  Any ideas on this one?

SCOM 2012 - Script/AD errors?

$

Hi,

We have a new SCOM 2012 install with 2 servers, plus a dedicated DB server.

There are 5 nodes now reporting to it and all are healthy, but there are repeating script errors from the 2 SCOM servers and similar on the DB server. The errors logged are 6028 and 21405.

21405:

The process started at 8:24:03 AM failed to create System.Discovery.Data, no errors detected in the output. The process exited with 1
Command executed:	"C:\Windows\system32\cscript.exe" /nologo "DiscoverHealthServiceCommunicationRelationships.js" 0 {3237253B-2A1C-38E7-8E52-588635224D35} {719C5DC4-6418-D15F-E009-2CF12E293AAF} SCOM-02.dev.local "DEVSCOM"
Working Directory:	C:\Program Files\System Center 2012\Operations Manager\Server\Health Service State\Monitoring Host Temporary Files 579\2314\

One or more workflows were affected by this.

Workflow name: Microsoft.SystemCenter.DiscoveryHealthServiceCommunication
Instance name: SCOM-02.dev.local
Instance ID: {719C5DC4-6418-D15F-E009-2CF12E293AAF}
Management group: DEVSCOM

6028:

DiscoverHealthServiceCommunicationRelationships.js : HealthServiceCommuncation relationship discovery for HealthServices configured via AD Integration

Could not find "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft Operations Manager\3.0\Agent Management Groups\DEVSCOM\AD Cache\Primary SCP Info\Service DNS Name"
The HealthService needs at least a primary management server to communicate.
This may indicate that the following:
	* HealthService has not queried and cached the AD SCPs yet
	* HealthService doesn't have access to any SCPs, yet is configured for AD Integration
Match results: undefined

I have checked the registry and the key named does not exist. AD Integration is otherwise working though and a new agent can successfully configure via ADI and add to monitoring.

I have checked SCPs, re-ran AD tools (MOMADAdmin, OOMADs), checked user permissions, computer account AD security...but cant find anything that makes a difference.

Is there anything I can do to reset ADI on the SCOM servers, or is that not relevant to 21405?

Thanks.

AD Client Side monitoring issues

Hi,

I have a very simple test deployment of SCOM 2012 SP1. A single Management server on w2012, single SQL Server on w2012 and a single DC on w2008R2.

I have enabled the AD Client side monitoring on the SQL server. Most of it works fine. I am getting 2 funny errors on client side scripts. It appears that the script believes the SQL server that is performing the client side check is a domain controller. This is true for the “AD Client GC Availability” and the “AD Client Serverless Bind”. Has anyone seen this before? Data is being collected for the other rules. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Ciaran

Error 1

AD Client GC Availability : The script 'AD Client GC Availability' encountered an error while executing the query '<LDAP://SQLServer.domain.com/CN=Sites,CN=Configuration,DC=domain,DC=com>;(&(objectCategory=nTDSDSA)(options:1.2.840.113556.1.4.803:=1)(!isDeleted=TRUE));adspath,cn;subtree'.
The error returned was: 'The server is not operational. ' (0x80040E37)

Error2

AD Client Serverless Bind : The script 'AD Client Serverless Bind' encountered an error while determining whether the DC SQLServer.domain.com is configured to cover the local site.
The error returned was: 'The request is not supported.' (0x80070032)

SCOM reports not working

We upgraded to SCOM 2012 using same OS and H/W. and some of the schedule reports are blank now.

When we try to edit the schedule of report, we get this error:

Date: 7/20/2013 8:25:31 PM Application: Operations Manager Application Version: 7.0.8560.0 Severity: Error Message: System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException: Value of '1/1/0001 12:00:00 AM' is not valid for 'Value'. After research, We found out the KB http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2836388

Do we need to change Short date and time format on our management servers, even though some of our reports are working and others not? If yes, what is the correct value for en-us??

SCOM 2012 gateway server

We installed a new Instance of SCOM 2012 wth 2 management servers.

Now we installed a 2012 Gateway server (Using Gateway management server option) from set up.

Gateway is in same domain. After few minutes, I was able to gateway in SCOM console on Management server as healthy.

But it shows under Agent Management rather than management servers.

Any ideas??

Gateway server client communication?

$

Just a real quick question I think on client to gateway to MS communication.. I have 10 servers reporting to a gateway in a remote domain and all has been working OK'ish.. I realise the client servers report to the gateway generally with information and this is compressed etc. But I am wondering on the logic of when the gateway is down. Today I noticed my gateway had gone into a grey state (it has done this a couple of times and I just need to start the health explorer again on the management servers). However for the first time I noticed alerts for all of the servers that report to it - "Failed to connect to computer" from the "Computer Not Reachable" monitor. I previously thought the management servers would try some sort of check if the gateway was down? I have never noticed this before.

We installed SCOM 2012 console on Windows 7 32 bit. It get installed but never get launched

We installed prereq like Dot net 3.5 SP1 and 4.0 and report viewer 2010 distribution package. Below is the error that we see in application log.  System requirements on Technet also mentionshttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/976898/en-us but you cannot download from public site.
