Alert Resolution State and three state monitor

$

Hi,

I have a three state monitor.

When state changes from healthy to warning - a new alert is created with resolution state "New".

I manually changed the RS to "Acknowledged" of this alert.

After 3 hours, state changes from warning to critical - no new alert is created (which is by design) but the state of the alert is now changed to critical.

My question is - with this state change of alert to critical; will the resolution state (RS) be changed to "New" again ? or will it still be in "Acknowledged" state ?

*************************************

I have a view created to display all alerts with RS "New". I sometimes see that suddenly some alerts pop up with age xx  hours or minutes. Though they were not in that view few seconds before. On checking the health explorer , i find that it changed the state to critical when it came to my view for RS "New" alerts. any idea on why this is happening?

Thanks, S K Agrawal

SCOM 2012 SP1 alert stat 255 and 254 still appear in SCOM for more that 7 days as set for data grooming in adminstration

i notice i still see closed alerts with stat 255 and 254 appearing (>7days to 100days) in the SCOM console even those the exec p_alertgrooming ran successfully and data grooming setting in administration are adjusted according.

Does this mean the grooming not working properly?

Running SQL 2012 doesn't supports SCOM 2016? Any points why it is like?

Install more than one SCOM agent on the same server

Hi everyone, we are in the process of evaluating SCCM and SCOM for our environment, and we want to know if it is possible to install more than one SCOM agent on the same server. Our situation is that we have a third party providing some IT management services, and they already use SCOM to monitor part of our infrastructure. We want to do some internal monitoring (on top of application monitoring) and we were wondering if we are going to run into issues if we attempt to install our SCOM agent on a server that already has an agent for a different SCOM instance :)

Thanks!

scom 2012 r2 ur8 console fails since RTM on my:

  • win 2012r2/2008r2 servers
  • win 7 corp at work
  • win 7 pro at home

if

  1. Open advanced search /search
  2. Search something
  3. Close search window
  4. Do some every day work, like viewing alerts, etc
  5. Try to search again
  6. Console fails

Not in 100% of cases, but very often

If there was no search attempts - console works ok

What does "All targeted objects" in a Run as profile mean when you try to associate a Run as account to a profile

$

Hi Team,

I was trying to understand a bit on Run as profiles in SCOM. I ran in to a confusion after reading few lines in the below article by MS.

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/library/hh431855.aspx

It says that the option "All Targeted objects" if this is selected, then it will distributed to all the Agent managed computers.

In the same page few  lines later it says the below:

When you select All targeted objects, the Run As profile will use this Run As account for all objects for the workflows that use the Run As profile.

I would like to know If i select "All targeted objects" will it distribute it to All the Windows computer Agents irrespective what ever applications they run ?

Or will it distribute it only to those Agents where the Rules have taken effect as per discovery Ex: If this profile will be used for SQL, I have 500 agents out of which 100 are SQL, So will it be used only on these 100 targets or all 500 agents ?

Please let me know your thoughts.

What & Why is AD Integration used in SCOM for ?

$

Hi All,

I have seen many blog's & articles out telling how to configure AD Integration, One thing no one has said or explained is why we do it and in what scenario it is used or done ?

I have seen in some places it is used for Agent auto assignment in case of fail over,

1 thing is that in SCOM 2012 the fail over happens automatically when 1 MS is down,

The concept in SCOM 2007 R2 Is also same then one MS is down Agents fail over to other MS or RMS and of the RMS is down then every thing is down.

So what is the use of AD Integration here can any one explain me ?

HI,

I have a simple Sql query which calculate the number of connection to the database .i.e

SELECT DB_NAME(dbid) as DBName, COUNT(dbid) as NumberOfConnections, loginame as LoginName FROM sys.sysprocesses WHERE dbid > 0 GROUP BY dbid, loginame

The problem is how can i execute the given sql query from SCOM.

Do i have to create new rule or new monitor for it and after creating how can i fit the query inside it.

Thanks,

SCOM 2012 R2 ACS DB SQL edition different from existing OpsDB

Hello All,

Need to know if we can have 2 SQL version in single SCOM Management Group like SCOM DB and datawarehouse with Standard Edition and ACS DB with Enterprise Edition.

I already have a setup with 2 MS and 1 SQL server with Standard Edition holding Operations Database and DataWarehouse; and I am in process to bring in ACS in our setup.

Kindly share me with anything that can help in this cause.

Thanks.

SCOM 2012 R2 Management server grayed out

Hi,

we have 4 management servers. 2 MS are working fine. other 2 servers are grayed out. I haven't seen any events 2115 in the eventvwr. And once I clear the cache , server appears healthy for some time and again it grayed out. Not really sure what exactly happening .  I am getting below error in event vwr.

Source: HealthService
Event ID: 5300
Local health service is not healthy. Entity state change flow is stalled
with pending acknowledgement

But database is up and running and another 2 MS are connected to database and working fine.

I verified the port 1433 from MS to database. And its open.

Also getting error in event vwr -  The health service could not log on the Run As account (datawarehouse account) for management group. Dataware house account is configured properly and  selected more secure , added all the management servers.

Need help in troubleshooting the same.

Regards,

Bharath

Calculation and substantiation of requirements to the disk subsystem SCOM 2012 R2

Hello. There was a following situation. The process of matching the equipment list with the customer for a system consisting of 2 servers SCOM 2012 R2, 2 units MS SQL Server 2012 R2 cluster, server, SCCM 2012 R2.The customer wants to allocate for the entire storage system with eight Gigabit Ethernet interfaces to the aggregation (for the operating system, installed software, database files). The customer was told that the number of monitored nodes is very small in this configuration (assuming that the configuration is very different from what is recommended in the Microsoft System Center 2012 Operations Manager Sizing Helper in the part of the disk subsystem). Customer suggested to reduce the number of observed parameters and proportionally increase the number of monitored nodes to the product parameters and units remained unchanged. How to objectively prove to the customer that the change in the number of monitored nodes is much stronger effect on the requirements for the hardware configuration than the change in the number of monitored parameters?

SCOM 2012 R2 Agent Control Threads

$

We are heavily virtualized and are having an issue where all agents perform tasks at exactly the same 5 minute interval.  This causes resource contention on the VM host for a few milliseconds every 5 minutes and is causing us a lot of performance problems. Is it possible to

a) reduce the number of threads an agent can use to perform tasks?

b) randomize these intervals?  (my guess is SyncTime in MPs is causing this which may be impossible to alleviate)

c) any other ideas for ways to reduce the impact?

Stale State Alerts Every Week

$

Hey All,

So in our SCOM 2012 R2 production environment, the State Change Event Data Grooming Setting is set to 2 days. The cleanup is set the run on Sunday mornings at 3am. Our servers reboot Saturday night at 11pm, but by 3am they are back up and running, but I still get the "Stale State Change Events detected in OpsMgr database" with the "Oldest state Change Event" at 14 days, so it seems like it isn't running.

Is there anywhere I should check/adjust to resolve besides having our DBA's run the SQL commands manually?

Thanks,

Xavier

One Management Server has SDK service issues after DB was moved to new SQL server

We have SCOM 2012 R2 -  2 Management Servers SCOM01 and SCOM02 and around 400 agents.

SDK and Data access service on the SCOM servers is running a local system

Our OpsMgrDB and DW were runing on SQL01 server and we needed to move it to SQL02

I followed this article and everything looked great

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh278848.aspx

Only after 5 minutes 1 noticed one of the Management server has turned grey , as checked i found the Microsoft System Center Data Access Service stopped.

I get following events on the SCOM01 server

Network Devices Pending Management Error: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

I'm currently trying to get System Center 2012 R2 to monitor our network devices using SNMP. When I recently added one of our switch types to the network I ended up typing an invalid hostname/IP address for it and running the discovery rule we're using. Now when I attempt to access the Network Devices Pending Management page I just get the Loading... page before an error window pops up with: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. With the additional information attached below:

Date: 3/28/2016 11:30:00 AM
Application: Operations Manager
Application Version: 7.1.10226.0
Severity: Error
Message:

System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

at Microsoft.EnterpriseManagement.Mom.Internal.UI.Console.ConsoleJobExceptionHandler.ExecuteJob(IComponent component, EventHandler`1 job, Object sender, ConsoleJobEventArgs args)

I'm guessing this has to do with the invalid name I typed for one of the devices because it started showing up after I ran the rule with that device in there. I have since removed that device from the rule but the error continues. Is there some way I can remove that device from pending considering I can't even get to the Pending Devices page?

Use task or right click function based on PowerShell Grid View

$

Hello,

I created a PowerShell Grid View to get specific alerts based on several criteria (like MP source) not available in standard State View.

But I would like to know, if there is a way to get associated Alert object tasks on right pane ? There is no task at this moment because I use "$DataObject = $ScriptContext.CreateInstance("xsd://foo!bar/baz")" which is not based on any known class. Or maybe you know the class I can target ? Like for example, Windows computer "$dataObject=$ScriptContext.CreateFromObject($relatedItem)" where relateditem is an instance of a Windows Computer class.

Or maybe add a function when you right click on object (like Refresh function).

Best regards.
