Another SCOM 2012 SP1 Anomaly?

$

0

Ill keep this short winded, but I am starting to think I am nuts.

I have this alert, pretty simple, normal annoying noise:

I wrote a PS script to connect to all of our servers in the domain and check to see if this file exists on any of them.  It is not on any other server and no other server is getting this error for the script "DiscoverHealthServiceCommunicationRelationships.js".  I have uninstalled and reinstalled the agent, even cleaning out the registry and Programs Files folder.

SO I decided to override the Discovery, but cannot find it.  I used powershell to locate the Discovery and it comes up in powershell fine, but I cannot find it in the console anywhere.  If I grab the Target which is tied to a MP, nothing comes up.

We did an upgrade 2 years ago from 2007 to 2012 and we just did an update from 2012 to 2012 SP1 a few weeks ago.  To me this is a rogue alert, caused by a rogue discovery.  How can I remove this madness?

SCOM 2012 installation after failed SCOM2007R2 upgrade

When trying to upgrade server (which has the DB and DW running on it also) the install halts after SCOM 2007 uninstalling

I tried to reinstall SCOM 2007 R2 but got many errors.

It seems the easer way to get service online is to make clean installation of SCOM 2012 on new server.

What if I will use parameters of old sever on new server  (network name, ip, management group)?

How will behave old clients (with SCOM 2007 R2 CU1,2,7agents) which now are trying to connect to deceased SCOM 2007 R2?

Network Discovery not working

Hi,

with SCOM 2012 SP1 I am trying to discover network devices (switches and routers) in local network recursively. But only the one network device I added manually is found as a generic device (so no extended monitoring).

I have read some articles about this and read some forum posts and solutions, but nothing seems to fit for my problem.

The devices are all the same brand and model: Netgear GS724Tv3. But with recursive discovery no connected nodes are found. I dont understand what the problem could be.

Furthermore I dont understand why the Netgear GS724Tv3 is only found as GENERIC. It has MIB-II RFC 1213 standard and thus should be able to be CERTIFIED. Or is there something else needed? I could not find any further requirements in the Microsoft documentations.

Hopefully someone can help me get some light in this mystery.

Thanks

SCOM 2012 notification channel error

Hello Gurus

I have got a question which I can’t find an answer to.

I have got a script(I didn’t write it), which looks at the names of certain alerts and then changes it on SCOM 2012. I have created the it looks like the following:

param ($rootMS)
$rootMS=”
#Initializing the Ops Mgr 2007 Powershell provider
add-pssnapin “Microsoft.EnterpriseManagement.OperationsManager.Client” -ErrorVariable errSnapin ;
set-location “OperationsManagerMonitoring::” -ErrorVariable errSnapin ;
new-managementGroupConnection -ConnectionString:$rootMS -ErrorVariable errSnapin ;
set-location $rootMS -ErrorVariable errSnapin ;

$Alerts = get-alert -criteria ‘Name = ”IIS 7 Web Site is unavailable”’ | Where {$_.ResolutionState -eq 0}
foreach($Alert in $Alerts)
{$Alert.ResolutionState = 20
$Alert.Update(“Resolution State Changed”)}

It works when I run it from the powershell window but doesn’t seem to work from the command channel i.e, the alerts get changed when I run it manually it works and the . My command channel looks like this:

Full path of the command line:
c:\windows\system32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\powershell.exe
Command line parameters:
“C:\Temp\ChangeResState_IIS.ps1″ ‘$Data/Context/DataItem/AlertId$’
Startup folder for the command line:
c:\windows\system32\windowspowershell\v1.0\

I have also tried C:\Temp\ChangeResState_IIS.ps1 and C:\Temp as the Command line parameters:and Startup folder for the command line:without any luck.

I have looked in a lot of different articles but there seems to be a lot of contradictory directions on what the command channel should be.

I think the command line parameter might be wrong. Also should the startup folder be what it is or should that be changed. I am new to SCOM and powershell, please help? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

I got a request to generate report for monitoring configuration for a specific server. I did use "Show running rules and monitors" health service task from monitoring tab and exported it to HTML. But management requires some good report with good information and they said that this out-of-the box not giving much information.

Could anyone please help me to get this report?

Issue in Global Services Monitor GSM

Dear all,

I'm facing a problem in Global Services Monitor.

The Resources pool contains 4 Management Servers; 2 old and 2 recently installed.
The GSM was installed and was working normally on the old Management Servers.
But, after increasing the number of management servers to be 4 instead of two, the problem appeared.
The GSM is firing alerts on the new MS's and their state are critical (old 2 servers are healthy).
The alert description is as below:

Hello,

I am receiving the following alert on a new OpsMgr 2012 SP1 installation. Anyone have any idea how to solve the problem?:

Operational Data Reporting Failed
The alert description states: Unable to determine if watson (DW20.exe) is installed

This alert is sourced from the following event log entry on the Management Server:

Log Name: Operations Manager
Source: Operational Data Reporting
Event Number: 101
Description: Unable to determine if watson (DW20.exe) is installed

************************

Server information:

OpsMgr 2012 SP1 installed on Windows Server 2012, fully-patched

Operations Database is on a separate database server running SQL Server 2012 SP1 x64 on Windows Server 2012. OS is fully-patched

Data Warehouse, OpsMgr Reporting, and Web Console are on a third server running SQL Server 2012 SP1 x64 on Windows Server 2012. OS is fully-patched.

************************

Additional details:

I have Operational Data Reporting enabled and wish to leave it that way.

I installed .NET 3.5 on the Management Server to try and fix this issue. I now see dw20.exe present in C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727 and C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v2.0.50727. I do not see it in any of the C:\Program Files or C:\Program Files (x86) folders.

SCOM Agents on Workgroup Server 2012 Not Monitored

$

Hi everybody,

We have a Problem with a couple of our SCOM Agents.
The Agent doesn’t report to the SCOM Server, it shows as Not Monitored in the Console. Also the Agent doesn’t download the Management Packs correctly, after one Day running he has only downloaded about 20 Packs from 200. It seems he’s doing something but not correctly or very slow.

Here some Details about our System:

All Servers with the Problem are Windows Server 2012. They are in a Workgroup so we installed the Agent manually with Certificates. We use the SCOM 2007 R2 Agent witch CU6 (6.1.7221.99) and Port 5723 is open (tested with Telnet). All Servers are Hyper-V Hosts but on the Guest-OS the problem doesn’t occur.
On other Servers with the same Configuration it works perfectly.

What I’ve already tried:

Stop the healthservice, delete the Health Service State Folder and start the Service again. Reboot the Server. Reinstall the Client with a new generated certificate. I also tried to install a SCOM 2012 Agent, but still the same Problem. Eventlog is ok, no Error.

I hope someone can help me.

Thanks

Silvan

Log particular alerts from SCOM to Service Manager 2012

Hi gurus

I have a  question. I am monitoring my IIS and disk space usage using SCOM 2012. What I want to do is for these alerts and these alerts only to appear in Service Manager 2012. I have configured the connector between SCOM and Service Manager. I want this to be an automatic process. I can see the alerts in SCOM but not in SM. Only if I right click on the alert in SCOM and forward it to the internal connector, then only it appears under All Open SCOM incidents in SM. So my questions are:

  1. How can I configure this process to be automatic?
  2. Where by default in SM does the SCOM alerts go
  3. What I really want to achieve is that once these alerts are logged, for orchestrator to fire up a runbook and remediate these (restart IIS and delete some files on the server which has raised the alert ). Once the alert has a resolution state of closed, I want this to be marked as resolved/closed in SM. Can someone please give me some directions on this? I am a newby and will really appreciate any help in this.

Please help :(

Thanks in advance.

Monitoring Changes in Registry Keys

Hello,

I have an interesting request I am currently working on.

I need to monitor the number of rows on a SQL table. If that value increases, signal an alert.

So far, I have a script that runs and counts the rows, and stores this value to the local machine as a RegistryKey.

Moving forward, this is where I need some help, logic and/or implementation.. How can I get SCOM to read that RegKey value, and then send a notification/alert of what the value is at the time of reading?

Thanks everyone!

2012 tuning/deployment issues

$

Hi,

I've delpoyed a new SCOM 2012 Production and Preproduction Mgmt group, but am struggling to resolve some alerts which are probably key to getting a stable core platform.

The 3 main issues, which may or may not be related are to do with:

1.  Run As Account does not exist on the target system or does not have enough permissions

2.  Powershell script failed to run

3.  operations Manager failed to start a process

I HAVE tried toubleshooting this myself and have read numerous posts but am not getting anywhere.  Just to clarify i HAVE implemented the RunAs config as posted by Kevin Holman - I am also using Ver 6.4.1.0 of SQL MP.  Our SQL dba has confimed access should work for Local system but just to be sure he has also set access for the SQL RunAs account which I have defined and pushed out in PreProd only - the RunAs account errors still come in regardless of the distribution of the account and 3 associated profiles.

Further info I have come across suggests that the autoclose option is a potential thing to check - I have checked and this is NOT the cause in my case.  I've also read post suggesting that the agent resources may be overwhelmed and generate this alert - and could the possibly explain/link the other script failures.  Ive also come across posts flagging continuing issues with the stolen server memory script being buggy since the previous version but still seems to persist in this lastest MP?

Basically I've followed all the troubleshooting - our SQL dba is convince the RunAs config permissions should NOT be generating alerts - the fact that it does and the majority of the Powershell script failures are SQL scripts - either timeouts and or relate to Stolen Server memory script is causing doubts of the monitoring info SCOM is giving esp around SQL

Any advice on trying to reslove the root causes of the 3 alerts would be much appreciated.  Just to clarify, I have created and distributed RunAs Accounts/Profiles.  I have alro tried increasing timeouts on some of the failing SQL collection rules/monitors.

Cheers
