How to - Modify settings of Windows 2008 Logical Disk Free Space Monitor

$

I have inherited our SCOM setup with not much direction.  I see the critical alerts come across for Logical Free Disk Space is Low.  The alert comes across like below.

Alert description: The disk G: on computer ServerA.zip.internal is running out of disk space. The values that exceeded the threshold are 0% free space and 10 free Mbytes.

I'd like to modify these settings to when the hard drive has 1 GB free space left.

When I go in to the alert and select the override tab, override button, for all object of class: Windows Server 2008 Logical Disk, here is what I see.

I am trying to understand what my alert is showing me with what I see in these settings.   I am not so much interested in the % of free space as I am alerting (critical) when 1 GB free space is left.

Thanks,

KevinS

Unable to stop discovery for IIS 2003

We have many servers with IIS roles installed but we are not using all of them. We want to stop discovering the such IIS roles.

I have created the override for IIS 2000 and IIS 2003. It seems it is not working.

Step I followed are :

1. Created a group with the server where we want to stop the IIS discovery.

2. Apply override to below discovery rule for both IIS 2000 Server Role and IIS 2003 Server Role

Windows Internet Information Services Server Role Discovery Rule

I change the Enable to False and Frequency to 120.

3. After 10 mins I ran the command  remove-scomdisabledclassinstance

4. Opened the SCOM console with clearcache switch.

The same steps worked for IIS 7 / IIS 8 Roles.

Please help me to figure out issues with IIS 2000/2003 discovery rules.

SCOM 2016 - WMI is unhealthy

$

I'm currently in the middle of a side-by-side migration of SCOM 2012 R2 to SCOM 2016.

I've been receiving quite of few "WMI is unhealthy" alerts in SCOM 2016, in fact 6 of the 12 servers I've moved to SCOM 2016 have reported these errors. The servers in question never had "WMI is unhealthy" errors in SCOM 2012. I also built a fresh Windows 2012 R2 server to troubleshoot, and still received "WMI is unhealthy" errors. I've gone though all the WMI troubleshooting steps listed in scom alert and everything with WMI seems fine. Since these servers never had these issues in SCOM 2012, I lean towards this being a bug.

Has anyone noticed  "WMI is unhealthy" alerts in SCOM 2016 also? Is this a known bug? Does anyone have any troubleshooting steps that are not under the Resolutions in the SCOM alert?

Thanks.

Unable to integrate VMM 2012 R2 and SCOM 2012 R2

I'm having issues integrating SCVMM and SCOM 2012 R2.

In our environment, we have two VMM server (highly available) and three different host added as host in VMM. Two of the are in a cluster and one as single node. Add all these VMM and hyper-v host in OPS manager first and installed OPS agent into those boxes.

After providing details into 'Operations Manager Server' section under settings > System Center Settings, i got following error in the new connection,

=============================================================

Error (11822)

Management pack Microsoft.SystemCenter.VirtualMachineManager.Pro.2012.Diagnostics version 3.2.8145.0 is incompatible with this version of Virtual Machine Manager

Recommended Action

Use Repair-SCOpsMgrConnection cmdlet to import version 3.2.8224.0 of the Microsoft.SystemCenter.VirtualMachineManager.Pro.2012.Diagnostics management pack onto your Operations Manager server, and then retry the operation.

As i have checked, SCOM operations manager is showing the older versions of management packs. How can I upgrade these management packs to latest?

Currently below mentioned rollup installed in SCVMM server.

Update Rollup 10 for Microsoft System Center 2012 R2 - Virtual Machine Manager (KB3147167)

Installation date: ‎2016-‎06-‎16 06:28 PM

Update type: Important

This update fixes the problems described in KB article 3147167.

How to "Un-Reject" Agent Pending Management

$

I have multiple Service Manager 2012 servers in our environment. As is normal, when I initially attempted to install SCOM 2016 agents to them from the SCOM console, the install failed since this is not allowed.

After I realized that I needed to enter the SCOM Management Group / Management Server in the Service Manager server MOM applet in Control Panel instead, I first rejected the failed installs in the SCOM Console. This was a mistake. Now the servers never appear in pending management for me to approve.

This process for adding the Service Manager servers (adding the SCOM Mgmt Group / Server in the MOM control panel applet) works consistently for all Service Manager servers that have not been previously rejected as a failed install from the Console.

I have unsuccessfully attempted to use powershell along the lines of Get-SCOMPendingManagement | where {$_.AgentName -eq "ServerFQDN"} | Approve-SCOMPendingManagement. The problem being Get-SCOMPendingManagement returns nothing.

So how can I "un-reject" the systems I mistakenly rejected so I can start over?

Email Notifications Not Working

This use to work when we had SCOM 2012 R2 so i wonder if this is a version issue. Anyway, no one is getting alert email from SCOM server. I followed this:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/934756

to test if emails are working and nothing arrives. I have followed this:

http://systemcentermvp.com/2016/06/28/configure-alert-email-notification-subscription-in-scom/

to setup notifications (yes it is for 2012 R2). Has something changed for SCOM 2016?

Power Shell Scripts Failing to execute.

$

Hi all,

I am new to SCOM and have it running well enough, I am just getting the error Power Shell Script failed to run on two servers.

I have researched the possible fixes but I am having trouble testing both of the more common ones.

 - One is a suggestion to run the script manually on the server and see if it actually runs, but I am not sure where to find the script that is failing so I can run it manually.

 - The other suggestion is to override the time out from 300 seconds to 600 seconds to see if that helps, but I am not sure which rule/monitor I need to over ride.

Can someone please help me out on this.

Monitor Folder for a file containing specific word

$

Hello,

I got this application that generates a file if an error occurs.

The filename is quite random but it will contain the word "Fail" (Yes, i'm really annoyed the application can't just write to the event log)

So what I would like to do is to monitor the folder if there's a file present with the word "Fail".

Searching around the closest thing I've found are:

https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/kevinholman/2014/03/05/create-a-script-based-monitor-for-the-existence-of-a-file-with-recovery-to-copy-file/

And

http://www.systemcentercentral.com/opsmgr-creating-a-monitor-to-determine-if-a-file-exists-sample-script-and-tutorial/

However I can't specify the exact filename, just that it will contain the word fail.

Anyone got any tips on how I can go about and achieve this?

Grateful for any assistance.

Is it possible maybe to to use wildcard in the parameters section on a monitor? (in the scripts tab)

Operational DB, Data Warehouse DB and ACS DB

$

Hi All,

We are planning to implement SCOM 2016 in our environment. We have to monitor around 400 servers. We will enable ACS as well.
As per Operations manager sizing tool, we can keep Operational DB and Data Warehouse DB on a same server for 0-500 agents. But some of my colleagues have informed that it will cause performance issues.

Please suggest should we keep all three Databases on same server or use three different servers for them.

Failed to ping or bind to the Domain Naming/Infrastructure/RID/Schema master FSMO role

Hi all,

we have an AD centric SCOM instance where we are only monitoring about 100 DCs.

In active alerts, every time I see these alerts in great volume:  Failed to ping or bind to the Domain Naming/Infrastructure/RID/Schema master FSMO role. The default Gateway is pingable.

Whats exactly happening here? Since I am not an AD expert, I approached to AD team with these alerts and their solution was to Run theNETDOM.EXE query FSMO from the console and if the task is successful, close the alert. Every time I run this task, it succeeds and so I close the alert.

Is this really a valid solution? I'm a little skeptical because If the task succeeds every time then why am I getting these alerts in the first place? What exactly is the SCOM agent checking here?

Also this isn't a kind of rule that keeps running on a timely-basis, right? Because the only things I see in overrides are 1. Enable 2. Priority 3. Severity

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

scom 2016 web console error 500

Now for my latest issue with SCOM2016.  I installed the web console on a separate server and I am having some issues.  I can access the web console locally on the server itself but any external attempt to connect to the console athttp://servernamefqdn/operationsmanager gets a 500 - internal error response.  I can connect to the welcome page  iehttp://servernamefqdn Some solutions I found such as deleting asp.net temp files and changing the application pool does not work. This is consistent for both http and https with a self signed certificate.  Thanks.   Rene

SNMP Trap Monitoring Broken After Upgrade to 2016

$

Hello,

I had SCOM successfully receiving SNMP traps and alerting on those traps under SCOM 2012R2. After I upgraded to SCOM 2016 I am no longer seeing any indication that SCOM is processing the incoming traps. I have recreated the catch all rule that Kevin H and others outline to verify that traps are being processed but nothing is showing up. I have also verified all of my network discovery rules are processing successfully.

Were there any changes to the way that 2016 ingests incoming traps vs 2012R2? Any ideas on what may have broken during the upgrade?

Thanks!

SQL Management Pack for SCOM 2007 R2 Updates?

Hello,

As the SQL management Pack for SQL Server 2008, 20012, 2014 & 2016 are having versions 6.7.15.0 are they still used in SCOM 2007 R2?

I installed them in SCOM 2012 R2 and they work well but in 2007 R2 I have an error on the XML ....

Are SQL MPs for SCOM 2007 R2 not having anymore updates?

Thanks,

Dom

Hello guys.

Some way to create a dashboard in SCOM with power on/ power off servers? It's different from "health state view". In health state view some servers will be marked with red color (pending alerts...).

I need only: Is powered On? > Green icon. Is powered Off? > Red icon.

Thanks :)

Hi, I am running scom 2016.   have two management servers of which both are greyed out. I can restart the service and it goes green but a couple of minutes later it goes back to being greyed out. I am also seeing a number of event id 1106 in event viewer:

and a whole bunch more.  all the agents are configured with runas account of Local System Action account and the two management servers are configured with domain accounts as runas accounts.  I have been trying to figure this out for a while but I have hit a wall and not sure what to do.  Any advice is appreciated.

Thank you,

Disable Defragmentation analysis on a HDD disk

$

I need help to find what is triggering the analysis of a disk every two hours

I've already checked that SCOM is not triggering it. We don't have any overrides in SCOM and from what I can see, the SCOM monitor is not enabled by default

I have also disabled any rules in SCOM related to fragmentation checks...

Still the Optimze Drives runs every two hours, I can see that in the event log
