Getting alerts after removing Maintenance schedule in scom 2016

Hi Guys,

I have SCOM 2016 environment setup.

For patching, i have scheduled few servers to Maintenance mode using the new MM feature of scom 2016.

i have scheduled few servers into MM with start date and end date.

Now when the schedule is over, and all the servers are out of Maintenance,bulk alerts are getting generated now.

Ideally the alerts which got generated during patching should be suppressed for that time(if its under MM), but it seems now those alerts are creating in bulk.

After the Maintenance got over, status was showing "Not Running", and I deleted that schedule.

So, is deleting of the schedule created this issue???

I am just assuming ,as i am not sure. Please help me in this.

Doe anyone faced the same kind of issue??

Windows Storport Miniport Driver has timed out a request

Hi,

We are getting a lot of alerts “Windows Storport Miniport Driver has timed out a request” from different servers.

I asked the person in charge of some of the servers and he said he don’t see any problem with those servers diskes and also can not find event 153 that is mentioned in the description.

Can someone help?

SCOM 1807 Network Monitoring issue

Hi Frenz,

            I have SCOM 1807 Infra with 2 Management server and trying to monitor Network Switch using one of the MS. When I create a rule with ICMP it's works fine, but SNMP comes up with the error "No response SNMP"

I used Portquery tool from Management server to make sure UDP 161 and 162 are listening from SCOM Server

I used SNMPwalk tool to make sure the community string is right.

Kindly help with the same, its reporting under Pending Management, after enabling the debug mode i didnt see any detailed Eventvwr log

DB Space issue

Hello All,

Our company uses SCOM 2016. CU4 version. This environment was operational from Aug 23rd 2018. Last time i checked my SCOM DB , i was alarmed to see the amount of space Data files were consuming. Any pointers how i can troubleshoot this? I referred Kevin's blog of DB maintenance. However, since the disk is already populated with so much space, can you please advise on how to identify or an approach reducing the space ? i dont mind deleting the data data of Aug if it is required. 

Any pointers is much appreciated.

recently upgraded to the SCOM 2016  from SCOM 2012 .

when I tried to execute the get-SCOMgroup -displayname  <groupname> , we are getting the following . the get-scomgroup cmdlet was executing fine in the 2012 but it is not executing the SCOM 2016 (1801 version).

Please let me know how to resolve it

Should i deploy Gateway or not

I'm going to deploy a new SCOM 2012R2 environment

There are 50 Windows servers in Domain A , 150 Windows servers in Domain B ans 100 Unix servers in Domain B. 

Im going to Install SCOM MS in Domain A . Domain A and B has the communication and Port 5723 is opened . but there is no trust relation between those two domains. 

So Should i need to deploy Gateway server to monitor servers in Domain B or not. If not how communication will work.  Please clarify.

Make SCOM "Tasks" to work with different Domains objects

My SCOM is monitoring multiple Domains through Firewalls using Gateways.

There are SCOM Tasks available in the scom console on the right side for each MP or Object type.

these always work for the Domain in which the SCOM Mgmt server is located in.
I am facing difficulty trying to run these "tasks" for Servers, Objects etc from other Domains.

For most of them, the "Run Task - task name" pop does not appear.
if it did, i would be able to enter Admin credentials in the Task credentials area.

Anyone has any ideas how this can be made to work with any server/object/MP et for multiple domains.

Multiple Application Discovery Relationships - SCOM 2016

Hello,

I have created a MP with 2 x Discoveries each with its Class:

1: Discovers Application by 'registry key' existence, and valid domain (hostname."Test.org") the application server belongs to:

  • App.Test.Class.Discovery --> App.Test.Class

2: Discovers Application services with wild card e.g. app%:

  • App.Test.cimv2.Win32_Service.WMI.Class.Discovery --> App.Test.cimv2.Win32_Service.WMI.Class

I have created 3 x Discovery groups for targeting the application alerts etc., to appropriate support groups:

  • Instance group discovery --> <MonitoringClass>$MPElement[Name="App.Test.Class"]$</MonitoringClass>'
  • Computers group discovery --> <MonitoringClass>$MPElement[Name="App.Test.Class"]$</MonitoringClass>'
  • Computers and watchers group discovery --> <MonitoringClass>$MPElement[Name="App.Test.PAT.Class"]$</MonitoringClass>'

I have created a Service Monitor:

  • App.Test.Service.Monitor --> targets 'App.Test.cimv2.Win32_Service.WMI.Class'

It all works mostly as expected.

  • The Application servers are discovered and placed into the appropriate 3 x Discovery groups and State view.
  • The Application services beginning with app% are discovered and displayed in a Services view (targeted show related data to: App.Test.cimv2.Win32_Service.WMI.Class) under the Application root folder in Monitoring.

Problem:

  1. The State view of the Application server shows as 'Not Monitored' under State view in Monitoring?
  2. No Alerts for the stopped services are shown under the Alerts view in Monitoring.
  • This is understandable as under the Application root folder in Monitoring:
  1. the State and Alert views are targeted to show related data to: App.Test.Class.
  2. The Services view is targeted show related data to: App.Test.cimv2.Win32_Service.WMI.Class

Question is:

  1. How can I relate the 2 Classes or Discoveries to show, or roll up the health of the application monitoring services to show the Application server as being Monitored, and the stopped service alerts in the Alerts view?
  • Note I have set in the class named 'App.Test.cimv2.Win32_Service.WMI.Class.Discovery' --> Target="App.Test.Class"

I also tried creating a Containment relationship, in fact also tried  Hosting and Reference relationships between the 2 classes but did not seem resolve anything?

Couple of other points:

  • App.Test.Class --> Base="Windows!Microsoft.Windows.LocalApplication"
  • App.Test.cimv2.Win32_Service.WMI.Class --> Base="NTServiceLibrary!Microsoft.SystemCenter.OwnProcessNTService"

Thank you for any insight in how I could resolve this.

issue in monitoring network device

Hello,

We want to monitor cisco router 2901 using scom but device not get discover in SCOM (ERROR:No response SNMP). 

Here is discovery configuration in scom:



In router  SNMP enabled in port 161 and provided correct community string in SCOM.UDP Port 161,162 Open in Inbound\outbound in SCOM.

please help

SCOM 1801: Web Console Alert Link Issue and Microsoft's Feedback

Hi,

we got the following issue related to SCOM 1801 Web Console.

If the user open the URL of any specific SCOM alert on the Internet browser, the users did not get the specific alert message, but they get only homepage of the Web Console.

Related to this issue we asked Microsoft Premium Support.

Today we got the feedback from Microsoft Germany about this issue:

"Concerning the other issue that you have described me aboutAlert Link: The issue is known at Microsoft. This is by design. This means that the Product group had decided to leave this feature in this way.

However we have already a request of “design change” in place. 

The Support engineer would inform us, if the design change request will be approved by the product group or not. The product group is still investigating on this."

What do you think, is it really a "design" or an "undesign"?

Monitoring to be setup for service accounts

Hello,

We have a requirement from our client where we should get a alert when a user is logged in using a service account. We should get an alert stating that user has been logged in on the server using a service account. Alert should also contain the device name of the IP from which it gets logged in. Just FYI we use VDI environment.

1807 and APM Agent Issues

We been reading a lot on APM Agent and in previous version it was crashing IIS.     Is this still the case with version 1807 ?    Should we reinstall the agent with the NOAPM=1  ?

Just wondering as there is not that much information when it comes to the new version

Maintenance Schedules corrupted - "Selected schedule no longer exists"

After the feature was introduced we happily set up our environment to support the new Maintenance Schedules feature in SCOM 2016. It worked for around a month until a week ago when clients started not entering maintenance mode even when scheduled. Attempting to edit or disable/enable any of our schedules gives the following errors.

"The specified @schedule_name ('GUID') does not exist."

"Selected schedule no longer exists"

Is there anything I can do to get this functionality back without deleting and recreating our ~60 schedules? This is very frustrating and was not triggered by an update or any action on my part, it just looks like a simple corruption.

Dynamic Membership for SCOM 2012 R2 groups based on AD attributes

I would like to create a SCOM group based on a specific AD attribute of computers, such as department. However, there is no Active Directory Computer context to choose from, for e.g. the membership rule should be (Active Directory Computer Object and Department = "Sample")AND True), but there is no drop down for Active Directory Computer. There are drop downs for Active Directory Group and Active Directory User or Group, but I do not want to assign the computers to AD security groups if I can help it. Is there a way to use the AD custom attributes on computer objects to define SCOM group memberships?

scom 1807 upgrade problem

I have a new scom 1801 environment (no management packs as of yet) and attempting to update to 1807. I downloaded the various upgrade files and now trying to update the first management server using elevated command prompt. The upgrade starts then  after about 30 seconds it suddenly stops without any kind of error message. Any ideas?

Question about collation on SQL server

Hello,

We have prepared a SQL server 2016 for our new Microsoft Operation Manager 2016. The SQL server is installed via a VMware template were the SQL server part is pre-prepared with the collation "Finnish_Swedish_CI_AS". I know that the common collation used by Microsoft OM "Latin1_General_CI_AS"

First question is. Do the system databases need to be in the same collation as the OM database or can the system databases be diffrent from the OM databases.

Second questin: when installing OM will it by default set it's own databases to "Latin1_General_CI_AS" when creating them.

How to NOT monitor SQL database on specific servers only

I have a test server with SCOM agent installed. I am using it for Lync watcher node to monitor Lync using SCOM. On this server there is a local SQL Express database. SCOM has MP for SQLs and alerts me about this SQL express database on test server that there is buffer cache hit ratio too low or page life expectancy too low.

How to disable these SQL monitors for only this test server?
