Event 20002 when installing a SCOM gateway

 Hi experts,

I just deployed a gateway:

1. Imported certificate chains on both MS and the gateway to the TRCA store of a Local computer

2. Imported MS certificate to the Personal store of a Local computer on the MS server

3. Imported gateway certificate to the Personal store of a Local computer on the gateway server

4. Approved the gateway with a GW approval tool

5. Imported certs to SCOM with momcertimport on both MS and the gateway server

5. Installed a gateway on the gateway server

Right away I started getting 20002 events - a device at X.X.X.X:XX attempted to connect but could not be authenticated and was rejected. Any hints? The DNS resolution works fine, I can ping the servers both ways, I can telnet MS server from the gateway on 5723. Certificates show "OK" in the certification path and they both contain private keys. The MOM registry entries reflect the thumbnails of the certificates in the store. Am I missing anything?

i have (scom 2012 sp1) with SQL 2008 r2 on windows server 2008 r2 and my manager asked me about compatibility to in place upgrade for SCOM 2016 and operating system and after searching there is no case like that so if anyone has an experience for that scenario can share his knowledge and recommendation

thanks

Agent keeps coming back

I have an agent that keeps resurrecting itself in the console, but the original server has been retired. I think the server was cloned at some point with the agent intact, and it's reporting into the management server with its old NETBIOS name. All I know is that I delete it, it comes back in a few minutes, and the name it's registered as does not resolve in DNS.

How can I figure out the actual hostname or IP address of an agent that is connecting to a management group?

Hello,

I am running SCOM 2012 R2 UR13.  I was hit with ransomware, and my SCOM server was affected by this.  Unfortunately my DB backups were also affected by the ransomware.  My MP's that I export on a weekly basis were not affected.  Is it possible to setup a new SCOM server, with the same name and IP address, and import the MP's without the DB?

Server Service: File and Printer Sharing Ports Blocked

$

Hello Team,

For 3 of my Production servers the alert: Server Service: File and Printer Sharing Ports Blocked is triggered via monitor

I have performed the required troubleshooting as mentioned in the Resolution in the Health Explorer

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Summary

This object monitors firewall inbound rules for File and Printer Sharing and generates an alert if either the rules are disabled or the corresponding TCP ports 445 and 139 are blocked.

Causes

This monitor can enter a Critical health state for the following reasons:

The Windows Firewall is not running.

Firewall rules for File and Printer Sharing targeting TCP port 445 or 139 are disabled.

If the health state is unknown, it means that monitoring has not yet begun for this object.

Resolutions

Determine if Windows Firewall is enabled

To determine if Windows Firewall is enabled, use the following procedure:

1. At an elevated command prompt on the affected server, type: sc query mpssvcand press ENTER.

2. If the firewall is not running, type the following command: net start mpssvc.

Determine if port firewall rules are enabled

To determine if the firewall rules for the ports are enabled, use the following procedure:

1. Open the Control Panel on the affected server, click System and Security, and then clickWindows Firewall.

2. In the left pane, click Advanced Settings and then click Inbound Rules.

3. Check whether the following rules are enabled and the Action isAllow:

File and Printer Sharing (NB-Session-In)

File and Printer Sharing (SMB-In)

4. If the firewall rules are not enabled, click the rule, and on the Action menu, clickEnable Rule.

This monitor automatically resets to a Healthy state after you resolve the issue.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

But still the issue persists onto my SCOM Console

Any hint on the same please so as the alerts gets resolved asap

Updating the Alert Context

$

The information in the Alert Context tab of an alert populates when the alert is thrown, and it does seem to update when an alert closes. 2 questions:

  1. Does it update at any other time?
  2. Can it be forced to update?

Obviously for an alert to throw some condition is met. In the case of a numeric threshold, such as some sort of performance data, it would be nice to see if this changes while remaining in the alerting threshold, without going to the trouble of also creating a separate performance collection rule.

For example you have a monitor that's checking a threshold every 5 minutes and returning data to SCOM. Property bags continue to be returned after the initial alert condition is detected - the values in these would possibly be useful to know, but it seems they're more or less ignored unless they trigger a state change.

I've been through SCOM documentation around alerting but can't find answers to the above questions.

Ignore CPU Utilization Alerts

Hello Team,

As per the business requirement we need to ignore alerts a two peak time when CPU goes a HIGH spike.

So the business wants to have no alerts generated in that specific time interval (8 to 8:20 pm and 12:00 -12: 20 pm)

How can I re-configure my CPU monitor so that it ignores the alerts in that time window?

Automating the task of putting multiple servers in Maintenance Mode - SCOM 2012 R2

$

Question for SCOM Admins:

We are running SCOM 2012 R2

We've been tasked to create a way for teams that don't have direct access to SCOM to place multiple servers in Maintenance Mode.  Currently, teams will contact the SCOM Admins to place multiple servers in Maint Mode and we want to automate this task so the SCOM admins will not have to do this all the time.

How are companies doing this? What resources can you point me to that will help us with this task?

Our goal is to place multiple servers in Maintenance Mode for events such as patch week, software upgrades, etc.

thank you for your help.
