SCOM 2019 Closing Information Alerts from Monitors?

$

Hi,

We have moved from SCOM 2016 to 2019 and we have recently deployed our 2019 version agents across all our Windows Servers and we have a number of Information alerts about "Monitoring Host Handle Count Threshold".

At first I wondered if it was about this:

https://kevinholman.com/2017/05/29/stop-healthservice-restarts-in-scom-2016/

but when I checked the overrides I could see we had already been through this.

The console will not let me close these information alerts.  I get an error:

[Microsoft.EnterpriseManagement.Monitoring.DataProviders!AlertProvider/SetAlertResolutionStatesAcrossTiers] in provider: [Microsoft.EnterpriseManagement.Monitoring.DataProviders.AlertProvider, Microsoft.EnterpriseManagement.Monitoring.DataProviders, Version=7.0.5000.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35].Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do next please?

Thank you.

Reboot history to be displayed in SCOM dashboard

I am interested to see the last ten Reboot date of all servers. Is it possible to record that data in SCOM? We would like to know if all the servers are getting rebooted in every maintenance window and want to track it. There are commands to get the latest reboot time via Powershell but I did not come across any script to list last ten reboot time.

If there is an option to list last ten reboots of windows and Unix servers, how to bring that data into SCOM dashboard or view? Kindly let me know your ideas.

Connect remote servers to SCOM

Hi All

Newbie to SCOM, could do with a little help if possible.

My department is now tasked with looking after a second company's IT infrastructure. The domain is completely seperate to ours with no VPN tunnels and no trust relationships and it will stay like this for the foreseeable. We could do with something to monitor this companies servers and was looking at SCOM. I have just installed a 2019 tester on our system as we are looking to implement it here and wandered if it was possible, without adding any gateway servers or any servers at all at the other company, to connect the servers at the new company to our SCOM server?

As I said, complete newbie to SCOM and could do with any advice you can spare.

Thanks!

acknowledged alerts re-appears as new alerts after Management server reboot

Hi Guys,

Whenever our SCOM servers get rebooted for monthly scheduled patching activities by Server Ops team, then all the acknowledged alerts (or any resolution set alerts) are re-appearing as a new alerts without any alert history on them. This is creating problem for our NOC team as again they need to re-validate these alerts and acknowledge it with notes. Is there any way we can stop these behavior in alerts.

Microsoft.SystemCenter.Agent.MaintenanceMode rule error

We are seeing a huge increase of errors on monitored servers in the Operations Manager log for the rule Microsoft.SystemCenter.Agent.MaintenanceMode

Event ID 1102

Error: Rule/Monitor "Microsoft.SystemCenter.Agent.MaintenanceMode" running for instance "Servername" with id:"{4E332338-EC16-ED43-60DD-929682495E1F}" cannot be initialized and will not be loaded. Management group "Management Group Name"

This happens occasionaly on different times and on different servers.

Anyone else seeing this?

Alert.AlertStage table data is not processing in SCOM Data Warehouse

I have couple of SCOM environments where Alert.AlertStage table is not processing events quickly or not processing at all.

Version: SCOM 1807

Operations Manager: In Availability Group - two separate nodes - Windows 2016 Server OS

Operations Manager DW: Standalone - Windows 2016 Server OS

I have done all basic troubleshooting steps like Service restarts, server restart, event viewer check for 31551, 31554 logs. I could see 31554 logs but the count remains same in Alert.AlertStage table and state.StateStage tables. Other tables like perf.PerformanceStage and event.EventStage table data is processing.

I confirm that there is no override for "Standard datawarehouse dataset maintenance rule" for any dataset. This issue looks strange as the other tables could process. I have seen 31551 events for Alert stage table to increase the registry keys and that is done. Now, I dont see those errors but still the data is not processing. This is happening in both of my SCOM environments which are in same domain.

Please let me know if I am missing anything. FYI. I have submitted a case with MS but we didn't get a clue yet to fix this.

Upgrade path from 2012 RTM to 2016

Hi all

I'm looking for some help.  Recently joined my company and now own the monitoring tools including SCOM.  We have an environment with about 3000 servers, mostly Windows and some Linux, but it's running SCOM 2012 RTM (7.0..8560.0) and i need to upgrade to at least 2016 to allow for support of Server 2019 which they are already deploying.

Is there an upgrade path even if a couple of steps as i'm keen to avoid a complete rebuild as there is a lot of customized groups, MP's etc?

Thanks in advance

Jeremy

What is the correct way of monitoring Windows Services in Multi-tenant SCOM environment?

$

Hi,

We are running SCOM 2016 and configure it for multi-tenants. It's a pretty new setup. We override the seed discoveries of the MPs on per customer basis.

I have received a request from a customer to monitor few of their services. They have shared the server names and the services running on them that needed to be monitored. First I want to share my brain storming: I am thinking that there should be a separate class of discovery where it discovers the monitor via registry entry, then I would override it to run on specific group of servers that related to a specific customer. Why I want to do this because I don't want that SCOM tries to discover those services on all customers' servers.

Please, let me know the correct way of doing it?

Dear All,

I have written a PowerShell script which uses OperationsManager as the module. Few of the cmdlets are giving output but I am getting below error while running "Get-SCOMResourcePool".

Get-SCOMResourcepool : The term 'Get-SCOMResourcepool' is not recognized as the name of a cmdlet, function, script file, or operable

I have done following checks:

1. Imported the module correctly.

3. Other SCOM related commands  like Get-SCXSSHCredential are working fine.

Need your help to understand what am I missing here?

Is the powershell widget in SCOM 2019 limited to only scom related items? I am interested in creating a powershell widget to monitor O365 services with the following script but nothing is happening. I get a blank screen. It works well in powershell itself.

Thanks,

Rene

Import-Module PSWinDocumentation.O365HealthService -Force

$ApplicationKey = 'xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx'
$TenantDomain = 'xxxxxxxxxxx'

Service Manager - RunAs account distribution

Morning All,

We are currently implementing Service Manager 2019. The management pack is imported and working as expected however im now getting alerts for the following "System Center Management Health Service Credentials Not Found Alert Message"

So here is what I have done to try and solve this

1. Because of Security we have created 3 separate run as accounts (one for Dev, QA and Prod) and distributed each one to relevant servers.

The issue im facing is i'm struggling to put each of these accounts in to the Service Manager Database Account profile. I've managed to put the DEV account in with no problems and that has stopped the alert for the DEV systems. However if I then try to add a second account to this profile with the same options it wont let me. It says the following

Is there a way i can do this?

SO basically I need to add three accounts (which are distributed to different servers) to this profile but configured the same. Can you help?

Homomorphic Signatures using Microsoft SEAL?

$

At the moment I am trying to find a practical way to implement a linearly homomorphic signature.

Background:

"In a homomorphic signature scheme, a user Alice signs some large dataset x using her secret signing key and uploads the signed data to an untrusted remote server. The server can then run some computation y=f(x) over the signed data and homomorphically derive a short signature σf,y certifying that y is the correct output of the computation f. Anybody can verify the tuple (f,y,σf,y) using Alice's public verification key and become convinced of this fact without having to retrieve the entire underlying data."

At the moment I can't find anything in the literature, but it seems like it should be possible to implement a homomorphic signature using homomorphic encryption. Specifically, I want to use Microsoft SEAL to do this.

It looks like it should be possible (and quite simple) to implement all the required components of a linearly homomorphic signature using microsoft SEAL. Does anyone know if this is possible or if there is anything already done on this?

Thanks!!

Hi All,

Asking the general Population to see whether this is a 'just me' situation.

I have recently upgraded to SCOM 2019 from SCOM 1807 and am now trying to reconnect to my azure environment. i was eager to see what the possibilities were with the log analytics connection however when i click 'register to azure Log analytics' i immediately receive the below unhandled exception.

I have tried this from my management server and my widnows 10 VM and cannot get this to load.

as always any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
