Since hearing that 2012 R2 is available as Preview with general release due mid October I've been looking for any guidance on migration/upgrade options and hopefully any idiotproof walkthroughs, but Ive yet to come across any.
Currently I'm in the latter stages of deploying a side-by-side clean install of a new SCOM 2012SP1 environment which is sitting along side our current 2007R2 production monitoring environment. What I'm wanting to discover is, is it likely to be straightforward to do an implace upgrade of my new 2012SP1 to R2, given that its not 'live' and is only doing essentially out of the box monitoring. Or as my SP1 is in its 'basic' state would a better approach be to just blow it away and replace with a new 2012 R2 build. From my own experience actually building it infrastructure isnt the issue and since I'm only doing out of the box stuff without much additional functionality/customization so am prepared to take the hit on starting from scratch.
I'm aware there is a recommended order of upgrading the System Center Stack which I'm taking into consideration in my final decision (I also am responsible for Orchestrator and the only post I have seen Re 2012 R2 was the guy tried inplace upgrade of orchestrator by because of issue with web console ended up reinstalling!) but rally looking guidance on SCOM for the moment!
