OM 2007 and 2012 Integrated Console

$

Customer have both OM 2007 R2 and 2012 R2 environment, but they don’t want two different consoles.

We plan to customize a console to collect data from 2007 and 2012, thus customer could only check single console on daily operation.

However, we don’t have table schema for OM 2007 and 2012, the only way to do this is through SDK?

Or any other suggestions could meet their requirements? Thanks.

SCOM Alert Closing Before Healthy

Some alerts are auto closing and they are still in an unhealthy state -

For example, we receive emails like the following which states logical disk space is at 2%, 7%, etc and they are CLOSED alerts. The threshold for warning is 10% and this is clearly below that. Why are they closing? And no we didn't manually close the alerts.

The disk D: on computer ****  is running out of disk space. The value that exceeded the threshold is7% free space

When I try to debug this procedure (ManagedEntitySnapshotSyncIndexBuild) with SQL Management Studio, each step in the transaction (SELECT, ALTER or CREATE Index) completed successfullyseparately.  But, if I run procedure, all changes is rollback.

Configuration:

3 x SCOM Management Server 2012 R2 (Update Rollup 2 installed)

1 x SQL Server 2012 (all SP's and hotfixes)

Any idea how to resolve this ?

Though the server is Pingable, it is still showing as Failed to connect to computer in console. Its been 14 hrs and still the alert is in Open State.

Server is pingable from the 2 MS but is not pingable from 1 RMSE.

I would like to know if there is anything else that can be checked to troubleshoot this issue.

Thanks,

Rohit

SCOM Datawarehouse Alert.AlertStage Table Growing Very Large

$

Problem Noticed:

My DataWarehouse Was growing very large.

After setting the Grooming settings for the collected data, it still continued to grow very quickly.

Ran dwdatarp.exe against the database and found that my the Configuration Dataset was taking up the most space. (90%+) Found this on Kevin Holman's Blog

http://blogs.technet.com/b/kevinholman/archive/2010/01/05/understanding-and-modifying-data-warehouse-retention-and-grooming.aspx

Found that the reason for the configuration Dataset being so large was the Alert.AlertStage Table.

Immediate Fix:

The best immediate fix I've found so far is to truncate the Table (As Long as No data in there is needed, and in my case it isn't) This is done by running the following Command:TRUNCATE TABLE ALert.AlertStage

I found this fix reference in many different places, but this link provided the best explanation in my opinion.

http://bsuresh1.wordpress.com/2014/03/18/alert-data-is-not-being-inserted-into-scom-data-warehouse/

Root Cause:

I'm still trying to understand the Root cause as to why this is growing so large and so quickly.  (Any suggestions on items to check would be appreciated)

One Thread said they renamed the "Health Services State" folder on each of the Management servers and this corrected the issue, however, other than clearing out cached/old data and forcing SCOM to re-create the folder structure, I'm not sure what this really achieves.  I'm thinking the problem will return.

I will try it anyway to see what happens.

Hi All,

I have a Web Application working fine with a NTLM account configured in the Run As account.

The Run As account is configured as a "More secure" with the Windows server object added of the watcher node.

My question is, Is it necessary to add the Windows server object of each watcher node to the Run As / more secure configuration?

Thanks in advance

Gateway server in non trusted domain

$

I have been trying to monitor a non trusted domain from SCOM 2012 R2. All servers are running Server 2012 R2 and this is running in a home lab.

I have added the trusted root certificate to both the gateway server and the SCOM management server.

SCOM Management Server is OM01.Corp.ViaMonstra.Com.

Gateway Server is BMC-DC01.BMC.Intern.

Both of these servers have the trusted root cert for ViaMonstraRootCA.

I then created a OpsMgr certificate by copying the ipsec(offline request) and making a new template. This has server and client authentication.

I requested this on both the gateway server and the management server and exported it from the user store and into the local computer store (with the private key).

I also ran MOMCERTIMPORT on both servers, only one cert showed up on each server which was the one I created and imported into the personal area of the local computer store.

I have checked that the FQDN name of the management server appears in the required opsmanager registry keys and also the required tls2.1 keys are in place.

I have also run the gateway approval tool which can with success and installed the gateway server role using the opsmgr install media.

I see the event 20053 stating the opsmgr connector has loaded the specified authentication certificate succesfully.

Yet I will get the events 20057,21001,20071,21016

Any ideas what else I can try?

When i tried to install the SQl server database it still says that there is no database. But i do not understand that why the installation doesnt asks for any connection to the database and still it fails. Any help is highly appreciated.

Operations Manager is not pointing to the correct database

$

Hi

I setup and created a database using Reporting Services Configuration Manager with the name report server2. Before that when I setup the operations manager, I actually created a database during the setup called report server. Now I realised that my operations manager management group is critical and noticed that the data base is reportserver, which is not correct. I tried to change from Reporting Services Configuration Manager to reportserver, to follow the database name shown in operations manager management server but it gives me an error " The database you selected is not a report server database. Please select a sql server database that contains report server specific tables and stored procedures and try again". Any idea?
