Hi,

I am unable to fetch the Performance reports for certain servers from 5th of this month. Tried troubleshooting the agent issue by clearing cache, bouncing health state folder and reinstalling the agents. But still the reports cant be fetched.

The event viewer logs in lot of Health service module 10103 and 11903.

Monitoring the number of jobs in a print queue?

$

First off I am not sure if I am making this more complicated than it has to be but here goes I just want to check I am doing this correctly. We want to monitor a queue (yes just one) if it gets to say 20 “jobs”. It’s important to note we have the print management pack installed but the feeling is that that does not always show a hung print queue and other stuff correctly. I believe I am correct in saying nothing in the management pack itself can alert on X number of jobs in a queue? For reference the queues involved are on a Windows 2012 server.

So first of all I have created a simple, single, static performance unit monitor

I target “Windows Server Print Services 2012 Printer Queue” (which I presume is the lowest level I can target). I have enabled the monitor but I guess I could also disable and override just for the print server I want to monitor?

I then browse to the server in question and choose “Print Queue”, “Jobs” and the instance of print queue I am interested in.

However while the monitor targatted at Windows server, disabled and overriden for one server seems to create alert the one targatted at the print queue creates an alert for every queue not just the counter I chose?

Also what I am wondering is am I utilising the print server management pack here and wondering if I even need it at all. So it allows me to target only servers with a print queue but presumably I could just as easily disable the monitor and enable for the one server?

Given that the print server management pack does collect the number of jobs in a queue for performance am I missing out by not using this data that has already being brought into SCOM presumably?

Thanks

SCOM 2012 R2 not downloading MPs

Hello experts,

I have installed an OM 2012 R2 environment and am currently attempting to download MPs from the Console via "Download Management Packs". I can successfully search for MPs from the online catalog and the selected MPs including all dependencies start downloading, but then they just stop right in the middle, as you can see in this screenshot:

This is the state it's been in for a day now. Does anyone have an idea what I'm doing wrong?

2012 R2 Agent on Domain Controller - Error ID 1102

Hello there,

I am currently seeing this problem on Server 2008 R2 DCs. I've got a SCOM 2012 R2 environment running, monitoring 4 Exchange 2013 boxes, running Server 2012 R2 and 5 DCs running Server 2008 R2. All Systems have McAfee VirusScan installed.

The Exchange Servers are running fine - no problems in Agent communication.

For the DCs, I've set an action account which is Domain Admin. I know thats not the best way, but for now, it will do. The Agents run fine at first (running under local system) and then, after a while, return no information and in SCOM, they are greyed out as not being monitored. We've been able to rule out McAfee, as this happens, even if VirusScan is completely removed.

I've found this article: http://ianblythmanagement.wordpress.com/2009/02/16/health-service-unloaded-system-rules-event-1102/

But I don't have that problem on the server. No C:\program file, just the normal folders. This is driving me insane, as I have no idea, why the SCOM Agent ist acting this way on the DCs only.

Does anyone have any helpfull ideas, where I could possibly look?

Best Regards,

Fred

Hi,

We have monitoring requirement of Lync 2010 running on Windows 2012 Server. Is it supported using SCOM 2012 R2 because in the management pack guide it is not clearly mentioned. Below is the System Requirement mentioned for Lync 2010 MP where even it does not talk about SCOM 2012 SP1/R2 version.

  • System Requirements
    Supported Operating System

Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2

Note: Only 64bits version of above OS is supported.
        • Other Software:
        • Lync Server 2010
        • System Center Operations Manager 2007 R2 x64 agent only
        • System Center Operations Manager 2007 R2 server and console (x86 and x64

Hi, The server agent was grayed out.  I uninstall it from control panel and removed it from agent managed.  When I tried to install the agent, it failed.  I installed the agent manaully and tried to approve it received the error message"The service threw an unknown exception. See inner exception for details"  I have the details but does not tell me much (I can post it).  I removed it from control panel (while still showin in pending), and tried to reject it.  Again, received the same error message as above.  This a very critical server, could someone help me with this issue?  Thanks, Ziba

SCOM - Monitor Specific Servers

Morning,

I am trying to setup a new Performance View in SCOM which monitors any Servers that have Oracle installed on them. From what I have had a look around and cannot see any management packs in Microsoft's catalogue that will do what I want.

I'm quite new to SCOM and this is something I've not come across before. I have had a look in SCCM and can see that we have at least 9 machines running Oracle based software products. I would like to monitor these specific servers.

Is there an easy way I could do that? Also could you provide some sort of guide for me please.

Thanks in advance.

Unexpected restart alert did not generate

Hi guys,

The situation I have is this:

ServerA (server 2008 is a DC) has a know issue where it can unexpectedly restart. SCOM picked up event 6009 and alerts on it. This works from MP rules "The Domain Controller has shutdown unexpectedly" and I have also created a customer unexpected reboot monitor (just in case) which works.

The issue i have is that these/this rule/s do not always fire off alerts.

Last night the server had unexpectedly restarted at 3:30am and an alert was generated and server was health checked.

But it happened again at 8am and no alerts were generated.

As the server come back after a couple of minutes no heartbeat alerts get generated. (only use these alerts for when server is down and does not recover)

I have check:

  • The SCOM maintenance mode history for ServerA and there was none.
  • The previous alert at 3:30am was closed at 3:45am (so it didn't repeat) New alert would have been generated.
  • The Operations Manger Log nothing indicating any issues with the agent or configuration. I can see logs showing processing of logs started ect...

Any suggestions how I can make sure these events get picked up and alerted every time?

Thanks Martin.

Dear Experts,

Currently we are hosting SCOM 2012 SP1 on Windows 2012 Operating System and the Server team plan to upgrade Windows server OS 2012 to Windows OS 2012 R2.

So, Is there any Potential road blocks and things to take care for SCOM 2012 SP1 if we want to upgrade the Windows 2012 R2 OS.

Hello Guys!

How can I create in scom/visio dashboard disks as memory like image bellow?

I saw the same question on the forum, but no one answered, so I do the question again! : )

Optimal SQL Isolation mode?

$

Hi Guys

Just wondering if anyone knows what the optimal SQL Isolation mode is for the Operationsmanager DB and Datawarehouse?

We occiasionally see some console slowdowns on our consoles, our DBAs can often see alot of locking which may be expected for SCOM, but they have suggested changing the SQL Isolation mode to 'read committed snaphot' to reduce the impact of locking.

Does anyone have any thoughts / advice?

Thanks

multiple SCOM consoles on a single machine crashes

hello

I am facing a problem: I wrote a powershell code that switches between open windows every 5 second. open windows in my case are 4 scom consoles opend on a LCD. SCOM console crash happens some times at irregular periods.

In "Multiple SCOM Console Windows Opened Crashes/Terminates" topic some solutions are mentioned that I cant use them.  I've spent lots of time to design and show this dashboards and switch window code.

I inserted a SCOM clearcache function in my switch window code to clearing the scom console cache every 24 hours but this operation clears my customization on console and changes opened views and needs to set them again.

any idea?

Resolve all active alerts when the alert source is healthy

Does it work for rules also? It seems that it can be used instead of the auto-resolve option in the override correct? It seems it just closes an alert when it changes to healthy but rules don't have a health state.

Cannot remove network devices

Hello

I have SCOM 2012 R2.

I'm trying to remove discovered network devices, but I'm not getting.

I already tried to:

  • Delete Discovery Rule
  • Delete Network Devices in Administration\Network Management\Network Devices
  • Export, delete and import Microsoft.SystemCenter.NetworkDiscovery.Internal MP

But the my network devices continue to be displayed grayed in Monitoring\Networ Monitoring\Network Devices.

If I create a discovery rule and try rediscover, network devices are duplicated.

Can someone help me?

Thanks,

Marcos

I am getting Alerts on A none existing IISADMIN service

Hi

I have SCOM 2012 Installed and it is monitoring some windows 2012 servers.

It was working fine for a few months.

Today after i have started getting alerts stating "IIS 8 Role is unavailable"

When I have look at the server IIS is working just fine (No IIS 6 tools are installed)

When I drilled down in the health explorer  I found out the the problem is "IISADMIN service  availability "

The server is window s 2012 with IIS 8 installed and the IISADMIN service was removed in IIS 7 and higher.

This is not a new server. No updates or changes were made to the Management packs.

My question is how do I fix this?

Should I override this for this server only ?

Thankes

Itamar

SCOM 2012 Probe for Omnibus (Netcool)

$

Hi Team,

One of my client is using SCOM 2012

I have asked customer if they use a load balancing solution and they answered thatno:

if the RMS fails the system will switch to the next MS “in line” (let’s call it MS2) and when the RMS will finish rebooting (all 3 MSs, RMS and the other two MSs in the solution, work on virtual machines and rebooting them will take one minute, or something like that) then it will become the active MS/RMS (a failback configuration).

If MS2 will fail (while the RMS is still down) then the third MS (MS3) will become the active one; if MS2 (or RMS) will recover then the active MS will be MS2 (or RMS).

Q1: That means Customer Configured Cluster Failover ? any specific ?

If yes. Do we have any Cluster IP which connect to Active MS (Actually SCOM Probe needs to be connected to MS)

Q2 : When Primary MS 1 goes down.. how Operator will see events from Which MS ? (Is Operational console will be installed on MS* also) ?

Q 3: So if there one connector to MS1 and a second connector on MS2, both MS on the same management group, and configured to get the same group of alarms (for example ResolutionState = 0 (New) ) then the two connectors will be in a race condition: each connector will receive different alarms because the alarms are stored in the same database (and not on the MS itself).

Is my understanding correct?

Thanks

SCOM Datawarehouse Alert.AlertStage Table Growing Very Large

$

Problem Noticed:

My DataWarehouse Was growing very large.

After setting the Grooming settings for the collected data, it still continued to grow very quickly.

Ran dwdatarp.exe against the database and found that my the Configuration Dataset was taking up the most space. (90%+) Found this on Kevin Holman's Blog

http://blogs.technet.com/b/kevinholman/archive/2010/01/05/understanding-and-modifying-data-warehouse-retention-and-grooming.aspx

Found that the reason for the configuration Dataset being so large was the Alert.AlertStage Table.

Immediate Fix:

The best immediate fix I've found so far is to truncate the Table (As Long as No data in there is needed, and in my case it isn't) This is done by running the following Command:TRUNCATE TABLE ALert.AlertStage

I found this fix reference in many different places, but this link provided the best explanation in my opinion.

http://bsuresh1.wordpress.com/2014/03/18/alert-data-is-not-being-inserted-into-scom-data-warehouse/

Root Cause:

I'm still trying to understand the Root cause as to why this is growing so large and so quickly.  (Any suggestions on items to check would be appreciated)

One Thread said they renamed the "Health Services State" folder on each of the Management servers and this corrected the issue, however, other than clearing out cached/old data and forcing SCOM to re-create the folder structure, I'm not sure what this really achieves.  I'm thinking the problem will return.

I will try it anyway to see what happens.

Also 16 events warning 2115 showed up in between the 31551-315522.

At all time we have many warnings 29202,

No backup runs on SQL db. DBs are backed up by sql on another lun that is backed up by Tivoli tsm.

No antivirus on Db.

The SCOM db have been moved 3 weeks ago on from SQL 2k5 to SQL 2008 r2 sp1.

My SQL admin found out that the SQL is generating lots of i/o (not all on disk, some in memory...) over 1 Tb of data  every night for some time... During the day DW db size is 74062,56 MB

We moved SQL data and log folders on different  luns, DW on its own lun. We moved the Datawarehouse on another lun, it made no difference.

The datawarehouse lun has long latency during the night, up to 15 sec.

No new MP installed in the past 8 months, only few overrides and disables recently

Our scom setup is 2007r2 cu7, rms on 2k3sp2, ms (acs) 2k3sp2 and ms 2k8sp2, 1 gateway in a dmz on 2k8 sp1 . Setup dated 2008 and 2011, all virtual Esx and approx. 150 agents.

From what we have read it seems to be related to performance, however we are unable to find root cause of issue.

Can you please help us determine what causes these error events to show up at night only...
