SCOM Datawarehouse missing Objects

$

Hi,

Did someone encounter the issue of SCOM Datawarehoue to miss all (this is strange...) the Objects (All Events, Performance data.. ) that are generated by a SCOM GW? In SCOM Reporting you can not even find them when you search for the objects(so they are not in the DW).

All other object that are reporting direct to MS are there..

Any idea?

Issues with scom 2007 management server

Hi,

Prior upgrading SCOM 2007 to SCOM 2012 as recommended review of event logs on RMS and management server is needed.

On the one of my management servers i have noticed that SCOM agent is installed , just do not know why and how somebody managed install it so I have uninstalled it.

Now I'm running into the problems that in the operation manager event logs i get error messages below and management server is grey out but clients are monitored that are connected to that management server. So far i tried to play with registry keys from healthy management servers but i still get messages in log.

The Health Service was unable to publish its public key to management group XXXXXXXX and will be unable to receive secure messages until this key is published.  Attempts to publish the key will continue

The Health Service has downloaded secure configuration for management group XXXXXXXXX, and processing the configuration failed with error code 0x80FF0066(0x80FF0066).

Agent fine but reports erros

Good day.

Scom is reporting errors on servers on the outer network.

the servers a running fine, and all services are ok.

but scom reports faults with aplications on this servers:

The OpsMgr Connector connected to XXXXXXXX, but the connection was closed immediately after authentication occurred.  The most likely cause of this error is that the agent is not authorized to communicate with the server, or the server has not received configuration.  Check the event log on the server for the presence of 20000 events, indicating that agents which are not approved are attempting to connect.

and on scom servers:

SCOM 2012 Gateway fails to communicate - Certificate Problem?

Hello SCOM Guru's

I wonder if someone out there may be able to help.

I have two (non-trusted) domains - both hosted in Azure. See graphic below (a picture paints a thousand words!)

Just to put some context around the diagram - I have a two domains, the left-hand side contains the SCOM MS and the right-hand side is a non-trusted domain hosting the SCOM GW. The idea is that I want computers (agents) from the right-hand side domain to be able to talk back to the SCOM MS vai the SCOM GW.

In a nutshell I have followed some great 'how to' guides - for instance:

http://blogs.technet.com/b/pfesweplat/archive/2012/10/15/step-by-step-walkthrough-installing-an-operations-manager-2012-gateway.aspx

After hours of messing around I still cannot get my Gateway Server to talk successfully back to the SCOM Management Server in the other domain. I have deployed my own Certificate Authority and followed documentation to put the relevant Certs on both servers. I have checked all Certs and they report 'The certificate is OK'.

Also I can confirm that the MOMCertImport tool was run on both the SCOM MS and SCOM GW server (I did the MS 1st and GW 2nd) - both returned a 'Success' cmd prompt. I have also rebooted both servers - to restart all relevant SCOM Services.

On the Azure VMs I have allowed TCP 5723 on both servers. Additionally, the SCOM MS can resolve the SCOM GW server in the other domain via a HOSTS file entry (and vice-versa). I have tested connectivity usingtelnet <FQDN> 5723 (both ends seem to connect). No internal Windows Firewalls are enabled on any servers.

The cluster of errors reported by the SCOM Gateway server are (first to last):

20057: Failed to initialize security context for target MSOMHSvc/SCOM-01.DOMAIN.local The error returned is 0x80090303(The specified target is unknown or unreachable).  This error can apply to either the Kerberos or the SChannel package.

21001: The OpsMgr Connector could not connect to MSOMHSvc/SCOM-01.DOMAIN.local because mutual authentication failed.  Verify the SPN is properly registered on the server and that, if the server is in a separate domain, there is a full-trust relationship between the two domains

20071: The OpsMgr Connector connected to SCOM-01.DOMAIN.local, but the connection was closed immediately without authentication taking place.  The most likely cause of this error is a failure to authenticate either this agent or the server .  Check the event log on the server and on the agent for events which indicate a failure to authenticate.

The same events repeat every 15 mins in the Operations Manager event log - and thus the SCOM Gateway remains 'Not Monitored'.

I don't get any relevant Events logged from the SCOM MS side - I guess cos it's not even got that far / authenticated?

I'm sure this is a Certificate type of problem but I'm really not sure where I go from here - any suggestions?

Many thanks

Darren

I've discovered a few servers in my lab, and successfully installed agents on them. I have one server that I am having an issue installing the agent. It is my SCCM 2012 R2 primary server. When I select to repair the agent (the server is under Pending). I get the following error.  Note, I am using an account with local admin rights on the client

Hello,

How to get an alert *email, page,...) for a service which stopped or failed to start?

Any builtin alerts on this matter?
Should I create a new rule on event ID 7021, 7024, 7031, 7032, 7034 etc...?

Thanks,

Hello,

I'm having the follow error on SCOM 2012 SP1 in Windows Server 2008 R2, with the id 31567:

Failed to deploy reporting component to the SQL Server Reporting Services server. The operation will be retried.
Exception 'DeploymentException': Failed to deploy reports for management pack with version dependent id '7c10d4f8-4743-fe71-32c8-d5222d549670'. Failed to convert management pack element reference '$MPElement[Name="Universal!Microsoft.Linux.Universal.OperatingSystem.PagesPerSecond.Collection"]$' to guid. Check if MP element referenced exists in the MP. An object of class ManagementPackElement with ID c37d8c39-2c86-42f0-63cc-6805295571eb was not found.

One or more workflows were affected by this.

Instance ID: {F057174F-1D89-3D85-69D8-CE5CE74BAAB2}

It's a fresh install, and i tried to remove de MP and i install again but the problem started as soon as i install the MP the second time. I saw this possible solution in this link, but doesn't work for me.

http://thoughtsonopsmgr.blogspot.com/2010/09/eventid-31567-failed-to-deploy.html

The configuration are like in this link https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/systemcenter/en-US/80cafbf9-a051-48df-b0b1-bb8b040af683/data-warehouse-failed-to-deploy-reports-for-a-management-pack-to-sql-reporting-services-server-event?forum=operationsmanagerreporting:

"Open Internet Explorer, visit http://servername/reports.

2.    Click on “Show Details” on the upper right corner. If you see “Data Warehouse Main” listed, please click it and check its properties. The settings should be:

Connection Type: Microsoft SQL server

Connection String: data source=<Name of the SQL reporting server>;initial catalog=OperationsManagerDW;Integrated Security=SSPI

(Ensure the NETBIOS name of the SQL reporting server is used.)

The option “credentials are not required” is selected."

Anyone have some idea what is the problem?

I already have deleted the folder in reporting server after i unistall the specific Management Pack, and them reinstall againd that MP, the error show up again.

Thank you,

Rui

System Center Operations Manager 2012 SDK: Is there a ways to get MonitoringAlerts by ManagementPack?

$

0

I have a couple of questions on SCOM 2012 SDK usage:

1. In SCOM 2012 SDK, GetMonitoringAlerts API has various overloads that allow user (client) to filter alerts by properties, management class etc. but I do not find a way to filter the alerts by management pack.

I can achieve it by enumerating classes in a management pack and then querying alerts for each class, but this would result in a lot of calls to management server. I wanted to check if there's a easier way to perform this operation.

2. I do not see any support for sorting/paging alert data, does the SDK support server side sorting/paging of data?

Thanks in advance!

Himanshu

Hello Guys

I have installed SCOM 2012 R2 and I need to map the monitored servers but no license sharepoint enterprise to create with Visio pluging monitoring views.

I've already posted dashboard in SharePoint but I have not found another way to create a similar topology to what can be achieved with Visio.

I would like your help to know if there is another way to create topologies (maps) and be published by example in html o in sharepoint.

Functions on Data reader and Writer action account in SCOM

Hi Experts,

I am new to SCOM and i was reading an article about functions on Data reader and Writer action account in SCOM in the below article.

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-in/library/hh298609.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396

Data Warehouse Write account

The Data Warehouse Write account writes data from the management server to the Reporting data warehouse and reads data from the operational database.

This account is assigned write permissions on the Data Warehouse database and read permissions on the operational database.

noteNote
Ensure that the account you plan to use for the Data Warehouse Write account has SQL Server Logon rights and has logon rights for the computers hosting both the operational database and the reporting data warehouse. Otherwise, Setup fails, and all changes are rolled back. This might leave SQL Server Reporting Services in an inoperable state.

Data Reader account

The Data Reader account is used to define which account credentials SQL Server Reporting Services uses to run queries against the Operations Manager reporting data warehouse.

The account should be configured as a domain account.

noteNote

Ensure that the account you plan to use for the Data Reader account has SQL Server logon rights and Management Server logon rights.

Based on my understanding on the above it is mentioned that the data writer account will be used to write data in Warehouse DB and not Ops DB but only Read from Ops DB.

For testing this in my SCOM 2007 R2 lab i filled a invalid account in the Data writer account field,

Post that the RMS its self stopped working. Also i do not have Reporting in my LAB.

Any idea why did my RMS get impacted when i altered the data writer account ?

As per the above article it just reads form the OpsDB but does not write any thing right ?

Also what is the Reader and writer account for the Ops DB ? Is it the SCOM Action account

Guide to productively use SCOM 2012 ?

Hello everyone,

I am having a hard time trying to find what to do with the SCOM 2012 R2 UR4 installation I have done. I personally think that SCOM has a very steep learning curve. Seems to me one needs a PhD degree in rocket science to be able to fully use SCOM!! Other monitoring tools like (spiceworks) are so very easy to setup and use.

I wish someone could tell me (in plain words) what is the sequence of things a SCOM admin should do to be productive.

Is there a guide out there?

Here are some of the questions I still have in my mind:

  • I have SCOM installed, now what?
  • I am supposed to install agents on all my 150+ servers or just a few?
  • How can I make sure SCOM watches over the servers? (warn me for simple things like disk space, CPU pegged etc)
  • Create dashboards on a wall mounted display?

Here is what I have been able to do until now...done the installation.... started monitoring a couple of web applications...you know... basic website is up/down notifications. But I wanna do more.

Please help me!

SCOM 2012 SMS Alerts

$

Hi

I have scom 2012 on 3 virtual boxes, 2 MS and one SQL/SSRS with esx4.1 and on blades, there is no USB available. I have a requirement for SMS alerts. From what I recall in SCOM 2007 the RMS was responsible for notifications, so if I were to make a box physical to plug a modem into, this would be the one. But in scom 2012 either box can send notifications. Obviously making both boxes physical has its pros and cons.

Has anyone got any ideas on what products to use to send SMS's. Or how to force one MS to be responsible for SMS alerts? I just need a working SMS solution, first prize would be to not have to make any machines physical.

Alert Repeat Count For Monitor

$
0
0
When I look in the Active Alerts view in the console many of the alerts have a repeat count. I understand if they are created from a rule and have alert suppression turned on this means only one alert was created instead of having multiple alerts that are exactly the same open. But for monitors what does this repeat count refer to? I checked the state changes in health explorer and they seem to be somewhere along with that number. When I run an alert report it shows repeat count also but that seems to mean how many alerts were actually created over the period of time the report is ran for. Please help since I'm not sure what the repeat count is referring to for monitors (not rules) that created alerts which are currently open.
