Web application transaction monitoring

$

Hi All,

We have created a "web application transaction monitor" successfully for one URL and when checked back in the "Web application state" in Monitoring pane for the status(Waited for more than one day to pop out here), there is no such monitoring getting monitored.

FYI: we have created lot monitors previously and we have not seen this type of issue.

Could some one help in getting the state of that web page in Monitoring pane. Thanks!

DB Free Space monitoring for DB's hosted on AlwaysOn platform (SQL 2014)

$

Hy all,

I've searched forums, blogposts, technets, manuals on every corner of the net but i can't seem to find a solution for my problem.

In our environment we have the following setup:

  • Few stand alone SQL servers (SQL 2014 and SQL 2012) hosting a few DB's on a instance per server.
  • Few clustered SQL servers (SQL 2014) in AlwaysOn configuration hosting a couple of DB's.
  • A SCOM 2012R2 environment (3 servers) with update management packs.

On the standard SQL Server 2014 "Database Summary" dashboard we have a widget that displays the following:

  1. DB Available Space Total (%)
  2. DB Transactionlog Available Space Total (%)

These widgets display data for the standard user DB's and all the DB's on the standalone systems. All the DB's hosted on our AlwaysOn platform doesn't display this data.

The following management packs are installed:

• Microsoft.SQLServer.2014.Discovery.mp
• Microsoft.SQLServer.2014.Monitoring.mp
• Microsoft.SQLServer.2014.Presentation.mp
• Microsoft.SQLServer.2014.Views.mp
• Microsoft.SQLServer.2014.AlwaysOn.Discovery.mp
• Microsoft.SQLServer.2014.AlwaysOn.Monitoring.mp
• Microsoft.SQLServer.2014.AlwaysOn.Views.mp
• Microsoft.SQLServer.2014.IntegrationServices.Discovery.mp
• Microsoft.SQLServer.2014.IntegrationServices.Monitoring.mp
• Microsoft.SQLServer.2014.IntegrationServices.Views.mp
• Microsoft.SQLServer.2014.Mirroring.Discovery.mp
• Microsoft.SQLServer.2012.Mirroring.Monitoring.mp

I have enabled the following monitors in Microsoft.SQLServer.2014.Monitoring by making an override:

  • Disk Read Latency
  • Disk Write Latency
  • DB Available Space Left
  • Transaction Log Free Space (%)

But the DB's hosted on the AlwaysOn platform still doesn't display any related data. The monitor state for these monitors are fine when i use health explorer.

I've also sifted the related SQL management packs for related monitors but can't seem to find the needed monitors.

What am i missing, doing wrong or am i trying to configure something that isn't possible?

With kind regards,

R. Tettero

Hello,

is it possible to monitor such services from some clients from branches without writing scripts and creating web synthetic transactions? Is it supported?

Gateway Server rejecting communications from Agents occasionally

$

Hi -

We are using SCOM 2012 R2. In my environment I have two gateways which are in a different domain and are reporting fine without issues. There are around 50 Servers reporting to these 2 Gateways and occasionally we see that few servers are graying out but they are responding to Ping and RDP requests.

After logging onto such Servers, I see that we are receiving Event ID 21006.

The OpsMgr Connector could not connect to ***************:5723.  The error code is 10061L(No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.).  Please verify there is network connectivity, the server is running and has registered it's listening port, and there are no firewalls blocking traffic to the destination.

When we restart the services it does the same. Port Query for 5723 shows
TCP port 5723 (unknown service): NOT LISTENING
portqry.exe -n USGRSCOMGW01 -e 5723 -p TCP exits with return code 0x00000001.

Although these servers were reporting fine earlier and that the required ports are already enabled on Firewall. Telnet to the gateway server shows as C:\Windows\system32>telnet ******** 5723
Connecting To ********...Could not open connection to the host, on port 5723 : Connect failed

On the Gateway Server, I don't find any event which is unusual or related to this kind of behavior from the Agent. When I restart the Health  Service on the Gateway servers, it will start accepting the connections from the Agents and they start reporting fine again and turn back to Healthy status.

This is happening for couple of weeks now where occasionally 5 or 6 Agents stop reporting to Gateway at different periods of time and when the health service is restarted on Gateways they will start reporting again. Also, couple of times all the 50 servers reporting to the gateways stopped reporting at the same time and where back after restarting the health service on gateway.

Has anyone worked on this type of issue earlier? Any help in resolving this will be greatly appreciated.

Warm Regards,

Abdul Rehan

PowerShell to invoke Add Monitoring Wizard

I am trying to use PowerShell to automate the steps of deploying and configuring our management pack.  Our manual process installs a template and then we select the Add Monitoring Wizard option to step through creation of the actual instance used for monitoring.

I've been able to decipher some of the SCOM PowerShell cmdlets to handle some of the other simple things, like creating a Run As account and associating a Run As account with a Profile. But I'm having difficulty determining which cmdlets to use that would perform the role of the Add Monitoring Wizard.

Does anyone have a sample I could use to try to build it out for my environment

Thanks.

2012R2 Update system inventory?

$

We are using SCOM 2012R2 and I have a server that I monitor drive space on.  Every so often we add spanned volumes to a mounting drive of X:  when I attempt to adjust the monitors in place and select the proper instance, the new one doesn't appear.

SCOM Performance Counter from Monitor

Is there a command or something I need to do to get the agent to update the system's inventory so I can select the new volume?

An Account specified in the Run As Profile "Microsoft.SQLServer.SQLDiscoveryAccount" cannot be resolved

Hi,

I am receiving this eror in one of the DB servers. I have found the Run As Account this error is associated with and I could also see that the affected server is already added to Run As Account distribution list still the error exists.

An Account specified in the Run As Profile "Microsoft.SQLServer.SQLDiscoveryAccount" cannot be resolved. Specifically, the account is used in the Secure Reference Override   "SecureOverride290ce5f6_b065_6a82_b072_fee51793d3bd".

This condition may have occurred because the Account is not configured to be distributed to this computer. To resolve this problem, you need to open the Run As Profile specified below, locate the Account entry as specified by its SSID, and either choose to distribute the Account to this computer if appropriate, or change the setting in the Profile so that the target object does not use the specified Account.

Management Group:  xxxxx
Run As Profile:  Microsoft.SQLServer.SQLDiscoveryAccount
SecureReferenceOverride name:  SecureOverride290ce5f6_b065_6a82_b072_fee51793d3bd
SecureReferenceOverride ID:  {ABCD3D29-86F9-AB83-7967-18509D5A2A4C}
Object name:  SQLAgent$SPPROD
Object ID:  {190E4FF9-CEF4-8E47-662A-41296BF602C6}
Account SSID:  009F2948B9DDC42B1030045C17B7CAE34EB034147300000000000000000000000000000000000000

Any suggestions please.

Thanks.

SCOM Management Group in Maintenance Mode

Hi

We accidently put entire SCOM Management group in Maintenance mode for 15 mins and since then SCOM has started to behave very odd. The Management Group has 4 management Servers in "All MS Resource Pool". We flushed the health state on all Management Servers, rebooted couple of times. No luck yet. Do I need to wait till SCOM recalculates work flows?

Not able to connect to database during Operations Manager Setup

$

Hi,

I am trying to specify the database server name (remote server) during the installation of Operations Manager (setup), but I am not able to connect to it.

SQL server is a failover cluster, hence I don't want to specify a specific node name here, instead I want to use the cloud service name under which the SQL server nodes reside (we use Azure IaaS), with a load-balanced port on 1433.

If I specify any of the node names, it is able to connect on 1433 and is able to determine Data and Log file folders, but when I use the cloud service name, it is not able to connect.

Is there any way, in which I can fix this? What is the recommended way of setting up the database on a failover cluster for SCOM?

Thanks

UPDATE:

I am using SCOM 2012 R2 and the SQL server we are using is 2014.

I found in the SCOM logs that the actual version and expected version of SQL are not matching, does SCOM 2012 R2 doesn't support SQL 2014?

In scom 2012 trying to discover a linux system gets: Data at the root level is invalid. Line 2, position 1

After following the instructions in "Systems Center 2012 Operations Manager  Unleashed" to prepare to discover linux client (Winrm command run, run as accts set up, run as accts associated with linux profiles, sudo user specified as acct, all required linux mgmt packs installed and verified, port 1270 set up for the agent communication)   then trying to discover a linux (suse11) system gets:

"Data at the root level is invalid. Line 2, position 1"

The only google that looked close to this was:

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/systemcenter/en-US/c6245d36-3a06-4b4d-8c7d-9173b71f1e2e/error-trying-to-push-agents-to-linux-5-servers-during-the-scom-2012-cu-1-update?forum=operationsmanagerunixandlinux

but the solution listed was to reboot the server, which didn't work.

Can someone point me to what script this is, or what can be done to deal with it?

Thanks very much,...VZP

Trying to use state view to monitor the disk health, but it shows nothing on the state view

HI

I am trying to use the default mp (windows server 2008 discovery and monitor)to monitor two machines(Both of them are installed with windows server 2012 ). I have overridden the discovered objects, monitors and collection rules(each override is saved in my new pack, for example, A.xml ).Then, i create the state view in the folder whose name is my new pack and select the target--physical disk(windows server 2008 ) but nothing shows on the state view, although i wait for more than a hour.

Have i missed something?

How can I determine what features are installed on a management server?

The responsibilities of the person who maintained our SCOM 2012 environment changed.  I am now responsible for it and a newbie to System Center Operations Manager 2012.  The present code level is 2012 RTM UR3.  I need to upgrade it to SP1 and then to R2.  I have found documentation that explains the process, however, they talk about roles that can be installed on a management server and say each one needs to be patched.  My question is how do I determine which roles are installed on a management server? If I RDP to each server and go to Start > All programs > Microsoft System Center 2012 and expand Operations Manager I see different Consoles listed.  For example on one server I may see only Operations Manager and the shell, whereas on another I see Web Console, Application Advisor and Application Diagnostics.  How do I know what needs to be patched on a per management server basis?

I went through most of the discussions regarding access denied on agent install. I switched off the Firewall on both the server and the target computer. DNS is resolving the right name and the account I use to push the agent is part of the domain admins

The error I get is:

The Operations Manager Server failed to perform specified operation on computer support

Not getting any Total CPU Utilization Percentage alerts, 2008 Standard

$

Hi,

On one of our Windows 2008 Standard servers, we're not getting any Total CPU Utilization Percentage alerts when it should alert. I've tried to manually lower the parameters from the default values to lower ones. Right now the values are:

CPU Percentage Utilization Threshold: 5

CPU Queue Length Threshold: 1

Interval Seconds: 30

Number of Samples: 1

The load on the server goes from 10 to 20% right now. Why am I not getting any alerts at all? What am I doing wrong? :)

I tried the tips in this thread but no success > http://social.technet.microsoft.com/forums/en-us/operationsmanagergeneral/thread/272FBD63-8FAC-4E4C-8F36-0800EACBE7BC.

The MP is WS 2008 OS version 6.0.6989.0 and the SCOM version is 2012 R2 (7.1.10226.0).

edit: The server is shown as Healthy/green in Scom and is not greyed out.
