Hello

I am in the middle of the designing a fully customized dashboard for my SCOM 2012 database. I can use existing queries but they are not complete. I need my own queries but i don't know which SQL tables or views contain a specific monitor or management pack's data. those people who generate these queries how find it out? is there any reference or guide about SCOM database structure?

Appreciate your responses.

Automatic "Maintenance Mode" enable on server shutdown

Hi,

is there a suggested way of automatically enabling maintenance mode for a server on shutdown or reboot?

I kind of got it working with a shutdown script (over local policy for dev; GPO probably will be used for prod deployment) and locally installed scom PS "operationsmanger" module. Unfortunately I had to put the logon credentials into the script to get it working. Is there a way to trigger this as scheduled task on server shutdown so the creds don't need to be put into the script (getting a proper user context over the task)?

Will the SCOM recognize a Windows event on shutdown fast enough, so the script for enabling maintenance mode could run on the SCOM server?

I tried to trigger the script locally on the rebooting server over an event log entry like this one:

Log Name:      System

unfortunately that did not work. Would SCOM be able to hadle such an event and run a script to enable maintenance mode before errors of the servers services pop up?

Disabling maintenance mode after boot up works fine over a scheduled task with trigger "at system startup". No need to put the credentials into the script there.

Hi Experts,

I would like to remove SQL (2012) Cluster servers from SCOM 2007 r2 which is having couple of SQL Instance as well, Because these are non prod and Apps team want to test the performance for these servers with test SCOM 2007 R2 Environment. So how to proceed this one and SQL Instance are monitored as Agentless computers.

SCOM Agent runs under "Local System" on Domain Controller -> Security Issue?

Hi

Is it possible to change the Agent Action Account to another "low risk" Domain-Account on a Domain Controller?

For testing purposes, I've created a simple SCOM Agent Task which do the following steps:

- Starts PowerShell

- Imports Active Directory PowerShell Module

- Creates new AD-User

- Adds the AD-User to "Domain Admins"

After Creating, I run this Task against a Domain Controller of another Domain where I have no permissions at all. (SCOM Agent installed + Certificate based Communication)

And voila, I'm a Domain Admin!

---------------------------------------------------

Problems:

- As an SCOM Administrator, I can choose which Run-As Account will be used as "Default Action Account" on each Agent.

When I change the Service Credentials, I cannot start the "Service on the Agent. I get this Event:

"The Health Service can only supports running as the local system user account. The service was not configured to run under a different user account so it can not start. Please reset the service configuration back to the default Setting."

Any advice?

I've installed SCOM using the MS SCOM guidelines.  When I attempt to discovery, I get the error in the topic.

Here is the details of the error.

Sending text message alerts

We are running Ops Manager 2007 R2.  I want to be able to send an alert to cell phone.  I was told that if I wanted to use SMS messaging I would need a modem attached.  But what about sending via smtp mail.   From within outlook I can send an email to <cell number>@att.txt.net or <cell number>@vtext.com and it shows up as a text message on the phone.  I am attempting to this an email address for a subscriber.  But the alerts never get to the phone.  They are being generated since I also send them to an corporate email address.  Anyone ever have any success doing this or know an alternate way to send alerts as text messages.

I do have one rule which runs a vbs script which send an email to a cell number which is working successfully.

Thanks

Microsoft Directory Synchronization Tool - FOPE (DirSyncTool) does not alert properly when down

I monitor tons of services in my environment, but for some reason the DirSyncTool does not function the same as the rest of them because it does not alert when the service is down. I have compared to all my other services and monitors for other services and it should work, but simply doesn't. What am I missing?

in our SCOM 2012 SP1 (CU3) environment with about 800 Windows Agents.

OperationsDB on a Windows Cluster (2 physical server with 2 processors (six cores). Datawarehouse on separate cluster.

When i create a group with dynamic members, it took about 10min. During this period all the consoles are busy and freezing.

Is that normal ?

Hello,

My SCOM 2012 R2 server was upgraded from 2007 R2 CU7.  Now that it is SCOM 2012 R2, I noticed in the Event Log that I have this error multiple times:

OpsMgr has no configuration for management group xxxx and is requesting new configuration from the Configuration Service.

How do i resolve this?

SCOM 2012 Agent- Ugrading agent that resides on another domain

$

Hi All,

We migrated a few months ago from SCOM 2007 to SCOM 2012 SP1. Migration was successfull however we need to monitor our SharePoint servers that reside on another domain from SCOM 2012. Currently we are still monitoring these servers in SCOM 2007 via a computer certificate. However my question is will I need to use the MomCertimport tool to import these certs again since they are already there?

Im thinking all I have to so to monitor these from SCOM 2012, is add the SCOM 2012 IP address in the host file on the SP servers, install the SCOM 2012 client and restart the SMS services.

Am I correct on this?

Thx

SCOM 2012 Discovery Problem: The pool managing the instance is not available or the location monitoring object cannot be found

Hi,

I have installed SCOM 2012 on a test lab. Everything went smooth but when I tried discovery, the error "The pool managing the instance is not available or the location monitoring object cannot be found.

Here is my Environment

Server1 - Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 - Active Directory

Server2- Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 - SQL Server 2008 SP2 (10.0.4000.0)

Server3 - WIndows Server 2008 R2 SP1 - SCOM 2012

SQL Broker is working. is_broker_enabled = 1 using the Query SELECT is_broker_enabled FROM sys.databases WHERE name = 'OperationsManager'

I can ping the machine to be discovered. It is part of active directory, it can be resolved, firewall is off.

I am also using a domain administrator during the discovery.

Any ideas how to troubleshoot it?

"Powershell Script Failed to run" alerts from SQL Management Pack 6.4.1.0

$

Dear Experts,

We have been receiving bunches of powershell script failed to run alerts in our new SCOM2012 environment. Majority of the script that fails are from the SQL Monitoring Management Pack. Samples below,

CPUUsagePercentDataSource.ps1

DBDiskLatencyDataSource.ps1

StolenServerMemory2012.ps1

SQLReCompilation.ps1

ActiveRequestsDataSource.ps1

ActiveConnectionsDataSource.ps1

CPUUsagePercent2012DataSource.ps1

ActiveSessionsDataSource.ps1

StolenServerMemory2008.ps1

CPUUsagePercent2008DataSource.ps1

I see them failing with 'timeout expired' error and wanted to check in here, if anybody have been facing this issue and found a solution for it. Is increasing the timeout the only way to get rid of this?

These monitors run every 300 seconds and script times out after 200 seconds.

Appreciate your help. Thank you

Decommision member from Resource Pool

$

Hello,

My resource pool currently has two members. Lets call them Member A, Member B. I will be adding a 3rd member, Member C to the pool. The certificates have been exported and imported throughout the members.

My question is, in the near future, I will remove Member A from the pool, leaving only B and C.

How does SCOM handle this scenario? All machines that have their certificates bound the Member A, they will more than likely complain about a heartbeat, but with the resource pool having two other available members, will all the machines that reported to Member A, will they automatically re-create their certificates to either Member B and/or C?

Thanks.
